Hello, First name / friend!
The other day, a few crows landed in my yard. I've been feeding the birds for about a year now. And painting them for what feels like a lifetime. But I've taken it to all to new heights now (according to my husband… he isn't as smitten as I am).
Last week, I apparently became a certified birder. Or, certifiable. Not sure which. You see, I started feeding the crows. One day a few weeks ago a beautiful black crow was sitting on my deck. I happened to have some peanuts in the pantry, so, I threw a few out the window to him (or her). One thing led to another, and now I have a full murder of crows who sit on my deck and call to me to come out with the peanuts. Every morning.
Today, I was in the garden and one came down and landed on a nearby branch. “Caw!”, it called! I knew what that meant. The plate I'd filled with peanuts had been robbed by the chipmunk who lives in a nearby hole. I said, “Hold your horses, sir. I'll be right back.” And I wandered up to the kitchen and got more peanuts to fill the plate with.
I stood back and waited, and down the crow swooped to get a few. “Caw!”, it said.
Look, it's not just the crows folks. It's the goldfinches, the house finches, the cardinals and the doves. They all have demands. And I have no problem feeding them.
I like to think, they are hanging around just posing to have their picture painted. I love them. Tell me you feel the same! I hope you love the birds as much as I do! Maybe you haven't adopted a full flock yet. But maybe you will.
