The Kentmere Valley on the Staveley Trails |
Who'd have thought that Earth Day was conceived in 1970, long before the impact of global warming became so obvious and our impact on the planet so apparent. At Lakeland Trails we realise how lucky we are to run where we do and we want to do everything we can to minimise the impact of our events. We're not perfect, you're not perfect but if the 25,000 people reading this each did one small thing, we could make a big difference! So, what are we doing? |
NEW for 2025 - Our biggest change this year has been investing in a new finish gantry, PA system and large capacity batteries, meaning our main site infrastructure no longer requires noisy, petrol-burning generators. We really noticed the difference at Hawkshead and even managed to recharge one of the batteries using our new solar panels! |
By making t-shirts an optional extra last year, we reduced our basic entry fees and ordered 8500 fewer than 5 years ago! We make sure that our tees are stylish and designed to be worn, not just full of sponsors logos which turn you into a running billboard! NEW FOR 2025, we've also removed the year from the t-shirt so that any surplus ones can be just as relevant next year! |
Have you seen the fancy red machines in Registration? Your bib's barcode is scanned and your timing chip is programmed in just a couple of seconds. If the bib is unused, we haven't wasted a timing chip. NEW FOR 2025 - remove the timing chip from your Staveley race bib (or any you may have lurking at home) and drop it into our new recycling bin. We'll send them all back to the manufacturer to be recycled. We're looking at ways to recycle the foam-backed timing chips too but we're not there just yet. We'll still keep some spare bibs for our hugely popular Children's Fun Trails with Zeraffa the Giraffe! |

Our Hawkshead Green Travel Winner |
Introduced last year, our Green Travel prize is proving so popular that from Staveley onwards, we'll be giving away TWO free places at every event! Simply car share or travel by bus, train or bike to be in with a chance of winning. Staveley has excellent bus connections from Kendal and the train station, which connects to the West Coast Mainline, is only a few hundred metres away from our event village, so why not travel on public transport (or bike) and be in with a chance of winning one of the FREE entries? Or could you offer or request a car sharing place on the dedicated Facebook group we've got setup? Another FREE entry up for grabs for anyone who uses that option. |
Why not see the steps we're making yourself by joining us on this year's Staveley Trails (5k, 10k & 22k) on 3rd May. Entry closes this Sunday! With Batala Lancaster drumming you off the Start Line, Pete Lashley playing afterwards, local craft ale for sale (including alcohol and gluten-free options), free photos, commentary…Lakeland Trails are more than just a run! |
