Even though there has been a delay for 60 days as to whether the Federal law goes into effect on the reporting of medical debt, we still need to be aware of the current rules: ✅ No Medical debts with a beginning balance under $500 will be reported. ✅ If over $500, it will not be reported for at least 365 days from the date of service. This is in addition to the 60 days it must be in our system. ✅ There are 13 states with more coming that do not allow reporting of medical debts, no matter the debt's age or size. This is on the State Cheat Sheet, but it can also be found in the Debtor Restrictions tab. If you are setting up an arrangement to SIF an account, make sure that you check the box for Settlement. The account will automatically close as SIF and adjust the balance. This works the same with PDs. This will especially help with Credit Reporting. |
