Earlier this month, I hosted my first virtual creative workshop of the year! I was inspired by the prompt “fun” from April's Creative Spark Challenge to do this and am hoping to have one every month as a way to gather, create, explore, and have fun! We made 4 different types of abstract inspired postcards for National Letter Writing Month. In case you missed it, below are links that walk you through each technique as well as a recap of the workshop. |

MAKE YOUR OWN ABSTRACT INSPIRED POSTCARDS |

The exercises we did together included: - Exploring Mark Making With Scribbles, Splatters, & Randomness
- No Watercolor Words & Florals
- Abstract Movements With Paint
You can find written instructions for each technique in the below blog post and you can follow along a guided video tutorial for #1, Exploring Mark Making with Scribbles, Splatters, & Randomness. |

While the idea was to make postcards, feel free to do these exercises in your sketchbook or on a loose piece of paper. (If you do, I recommend taping off a border first that you can peel off when you're done for a clean finish on the edges!) And here are a few photos from the workshop! The top set of postcards are by Anet, the second set is by Maia, and the last pic is a group pic :) I love how different each exercise turned out for each person--it's so fun to see! |
|
The idea behind the workshop is to take imperfect action, to have fun, and start creating in an easy no-pressure way! I am open to different ideas so if you have a suggestion on what you'd like to do in a workshop (it can be a specific exercise, technique, a theme, material, etc.) please reply to this email and let me know! I am looking forward to the next one which should be happening in early May--I will keep you posted! Take care and talk to you soon, |
|
PS: Here's what I made in the workshop :) (I was still waiting for the painted swipes to dry so hadn't cut it down to size yet!) |
