Trend Tracking

First Nations art continues to receive steady appreciation and has recently come into focus, specifically with a growing number of museums and private collections around the globe featuring Indigenous Australian contemporary art. In recent years I was thrilled to see Sally Gabori‘s major solo exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain and was delighted at Marian Goodman Gallery  taking on representation of Daniel Boyd  alongside his landmark presentation “RAINBOW SERPENT (VERSION)” at the Martin Gropius-Bau in Berlin in 2023. These are just a few examples of institutional recognition which is a testament to the world class standing of these artists and the work being produced within Australia. With the Agency,  I had the privilege to place a number of masterpieces by some of the above mentioned artists, in addition to other key figures for a range of prestigious private collections and museums.

From the road

For years, I have dreamt of expanding the scope of the Arndt Family Art Foundation with a project based on a Greek island. The first step in this journey has started. I recently met with architects and builders, marking the beginning of the reconstruction of the former olive oil press building in Marathokampos, Samos island, Greece, into an Artist Residency.

My recent research for various clients has allowed me to investigate the artistic practice of the influential Italian Master painter Salvo (1947-2015).  The importance of his work lies in his unconventional artistic journey, which spanned from conceptual art and Arte Povera to dreamlike landscape paintings. Salvo is recognised for his exploration of themes like self, history, and identity, and his ability to weave together historical references with personal experiences. His work continues to be highly sought after and is seen as a crucial part of the history of art, influencing modern and contemporary artists. There has been a dramatic rise in popularity and value of his pieces, especially in the years following his death. Previously relatively obscure, his work is now hot property, with prices at auction soaring and his paintings being featured at major international art fairs and museum exhibitions.

For each edition, I share my top picks of important institutional presentations.

 

I highly recommend the current retrospective "Sigmar Polke (1941-2010): Beneath the Cobblestones, the Earth" on view at The Fondation Vincent Van Gogh, in Arles, France. Polke is considered as one of the most important artists of the postwar era and was acclaimed for his ever-critical artistic investigations. This show brings together, paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures and films, that present the experimental nature of his oeuvre.  Until 26 October.

Artwork Spotlight
 

For each edition, I highlight a specific work by an artist on my radar. Ayako Rokkaku's “Untitled” (2025) is a striking piece currently on display at the Shepparton Art Museum,  Australia until the 16th of June. This painting represents Rokkaku's (b. 1982 Chiba, Japan) vivid, signature painting style, fusing free-flowing abstract forms and figurative elements inspired by Japan’s ‘kawaii’ culture.
