021. happenings
MAY 5, 2025
Hi dear friends,

I'm writing this email from the library in the Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, part of the San Francisco Zen Center ecosystem. Zach was so sweet to set me up here for a few days after my Hoffman Process earlier this week, and it's been the perfect sanctuary to integrate an intense, yet incredible experience. I'm so grateful for these types of communities of practice (and we curate these Happening emails so you can get have more access to them too!)

While I was at Hoffman, Zach led the facilitation at our annual Guide Gathering at ChoZen in collaboration with our dear friends Tony, Ximena, Kumu Ramsay, Swami, Jyoti Ma, Nakaloka, and Magdalena. Our elders, guides, and communities are so incredible and yet every time we bring them together – I'm awed by the wisdom and magic that comes through these containers.

We are both beyond excited about our gathering next month at Tassajara in Big Sur, the first Zen Monastery outside of Japan. We have a few more spots left for those who feel called to join us. It's shaping up to be my favorite gathering yet, and I hope you consider joining us.

With love and gratitude,
Elyse

For five days and four nights we'll co-create a one of a kind experience in the tranquil energy of Tassajara nestled deep in the Big Sur mountains. This will be a period of multimodal practice, community, and contemplation, which will give rise to the most ideal energetics for our collective discourse.

Decades of Zen Buddhist practice have made the Tassajara valley a sacred land not only for the Esselen tribe, its original occupants, but also for Buddhists of all lineages. It is the home of the first Zen monastery outside of Japan. We find Tassajara to be a one of a kind energetic container to discover stillness, expand and integrate while being able to soak in the healing waters of the Big Sur hot springs.
