High Bar First Nation achieves FMB’s highest level of financial management certification

HIGH BAR FIRST NATION – High Bar First Nation in the British Columbia Interior recently achieved Financial Management System (FMS) Certification from the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). This means that the First Nation’s financial management and administrative governance practices meet the standards of FMB’s highest level of financial certification, based on internationally recognized standards of financial management.

“The High Bar First Nation is pleased to receive this certification and recognition for our financial management systems.” says High Bar Chief Jamie Fletcher. “It is important that our Nation demonstrates strong fiscal management and transparency in the work we do for our community. I would like to acknowledge our Council and Finance team who worked hard to achieve this certification.”

High Bar’s business activities are primarily in forestry, mining, and road construction. It is exploring opportunities in green energy.

Because the Nation’s reserve lands along the Fraser River are uninhabitable, with no access to electricity or drinking water, High Bar is currently working on Additions to Reserve and other land acquisitions to establish a community at Clinton, BC.

The Nation’s citizens are scattered across BC, the US, the NWT, and Yukon. With the biggest group of citizens in the Clinton area, Chief and Council are working to build a community there with the infrastructure needed to bring people back home, including housing, a health centre, and band office.

The FMB congratulates High Bar First Nation on the significant achievement of FMS Certification.
