This week, I wanted to keep things light and fun and introduce you to a few very important members of my family. They don’t help with the writing, but they are definitely here for a lot of it! 

Let me introduce you to the animals who keep our house lively.

 

Skylar 🐶
Skylar is our 8-year-old mini Australian Shepherd and the wise old soul of the house. She’s sweet, smart, and takes her self-appointed job of supervising all family activity very seriously. She enjoys walks, belly rubs, and quiet corners to nap in. She’s not exactly a fan of our cat, but she puts up with him like a true professional.

Loki 🐱
Loki is our 4-year-old Ragdoll cat who is completely and utterly in love with Skylar. Unfortunately for him, that love is not returned. He’s always trying to snuggle up to her, wrap her in his giant fluffy tail, and follow her around like an awkward little brother. Skylar tolerates him with long-suffering sighs and strategic retreats to higher ground.

Pumpkin 🦎
Pumpkin is our newest family member. She’s a chuckwalla lizard, native to the Mojave Desert where we live. We got her from a breeder as a hatchling, and she has grown into the most outgoing little creature. She absolutely loves being held and spends a lot of time with my 7-year-old son, Tristan. They even watch TV together, with Pumpkin perched on his shoulder like she owns the place.

 

Pumpkin is a vegetarian lizard and she eats mostly kale and other leafy greens, but her favorite treat is dandelions. Every day, when I take Skylar for a walk, I pick a few fresh dandelions for Pumpkin to enjoy. It’s become one of my favorite little routines.

 

So that’s our furry and scaly crew. They bring a lot of love, a little drama, and endless entertainment to our home.

 

Whether they’re cats, dogs, birds, lizards, or anything in between, tell me their names, what makes them special, and who truly runs your household. (We all know it’s not the humans.)
