A Note from Julie, the Greenhouse Curator: |

Remember those 30-minute calls I invited Leaflet readers to sign up for a few weeks ago? I decided to call them Nurture Sessionsābecause nurture means providing care, encouragement, and the right conditions for healthy growth (and who doesnāt need more of that?). Well, Iāve had four sessions so far, with one more coming up soon, and Iāve loved every single one. |
|
Itās been a full week with RealTeam proofreading, client work, and these one-on-one sessions sprinkled in. But I came away from each conversation feeling energized, encouraged, and grateful. This is just the beginning. More to come soon. š± |

What a Goalie Can Teach Us About Proofreading š„
|
|
Iāve seen several posts lately reminding us that no one is perfect, not even proofreaders. Weāre human, and so are our clients. Itās worth remembering (and gently reminding our clients of that too). This week, I shared a thoughtful LinkedIn post from Dave Baker on this very topic. Dean Comeau's comment on my post really stuck with me. He described proofreaders and editors as the last line of defenseālike a goalie in soccer or hockey. I love that analogy. Itās such a clear picture of the role we play in helping content reach the world with clarity and care. |

You know I love a plant-themed typo. This one? āIce pantsā instead of āice plants.ā Just one letter missing, but it changes everything. š§šš By the way, if you're interested in learning about the ice plant (which I'd never heard of until proofreading the transcript where this typo occurred), here's some info about it (with photos) from The Spruce website. Catch of the Week screenshots come from my transcript proofreading. I can't change what a person said, but I can make sure words are spelled correctly and punctuation marks are in the right spots. If you're interested in learning more about transcript proofreading, I wrote an article about it here. |

This Week's Featured Proofreader or Editor: |
|
The Proofreader Greenhouse asked: - What type of content do you proofread or edit?
What don't I edit? I work in marketing and communications, but mental health is my expertise. - Did you complete training for proofreading or editing?
I have a bachelor's degree and a Ph.D. in journalism. I'm a former journalist and worked as a journalism professor for 16 years. - What's your favorite thing about your proofreading or editing work?
Helping clients take their writing to the next level. Every piece is better with a great editor. Great writing deserves great editing. - What causes you the most frustration in your work?
People who don't think they should be edited. - What tips would you like to share with other proofreaders and editors?
It's so tempting to take work that isn't really the right fit for you or that you don't have time for because you're afraid more won't come along. Don't. Do. It! You'll regret it every time because you won't be happy with what you have to give, and you won't enjoy the work itself.

Plant Photos of the Week: |

With Mother's Day around the corner, I know this weekend will mean different things to different people. Whether you're celebrating, remembering, or simply enjoying a quiet Sunday, I hope these orchids I recently saw at a local greenhouse bring a little beauty to your day. šŗ |
