Site Notes
Tips, Tools, and Insights for Your Online Business

Hey First name / friend,

Welcome to the very first edition of Site Notes!

When I started in tech back in 1988, I was often the only woman in the room. While more women are entering the industry today, there's still a real need for support—especially for women entrepreneurs who feel unsure around tech.

That's why I created Site Notes—a space to share tools, tips, and real guidance for building and maintaining a website with clarity and confidence with WordPress.

One of the ways we are creating community is with the online course “Website Foundations”. It is limited to 25 spots, registration closes on May 31, and the course will start on June 5th. See button below for details.

I am so excited about this next chapter because together we will be creating a community that is not just about creating websites, but something much bigger, together.

💛 If this speaks to you, I’d love for you to share Site Notes with other women entrepreneurs, in the creative and service industry, who might need or want this kind of support too.

I hope you enjoy this first edition and thank you for subscribing to Site Notes,

New on the Blog
In this new post, you will discover the benefits and steps of having a clear plan before you build your website. Whether you're just getting started or thinking of a redesign, this post can set the stage for your next step in the process.
News & Tip(s)

WordPress 6.8 “Cecil”* is here!
A new version of WordPress (6.8 called “Cecil”)* was released in April, and it brings some helpful updates:
  • It is now easier to preview and customize fonts and styles especially of you are using a classic theme (a theme built prior to 2020)
  • Websites will load faster due to behind-the-scene improvements
  • Passwords are stored even more securely
  • Accessibility is better thus making it easier for everyone to navigate your site, including those with screen readers.
If your version of WordPress is older (e.g. 5.9 or earlier), you may be using a classic theme, and it is a great time to consider updating WordPress and the theme for your site.

FUN FACT
* Each WordPress release celebrates an artist who has left an indelible mark on music.  WordPress 6.8, code-named “Cecil,” honors the legendary pianist and jazz pioneer Cecil Taylor.

TIP: The simplest way to check what version of WordPress your website is using
  1. Log in to the admin area of your WordPress site.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  3. In the lower right hand corner is the WordPress version number.
WordPress admin dashboard showing the location of the WordPress version.
