From newborn wildlife to blooming flowers, June offers plenty of opportunities to connect with nature! In early June, beaver kits are born, while Mountain Laurel—Connecticut’s state flower!— and Beach Roses bloom. Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet Tanager, and Eastern Bluebird chicks hatch. Around mid-month, the Full Strawberry Moon coincides with strawberry harvests, and turtles roam land to nest. Watch for them crossing roads! The Summer Solstice on June 20 marks the longest day of the year and the start of summer. As the month continues, listen for the Eastern Wood Pewee, a unique song that continues into the night after other birds have gone quiet.
