Greetings Barre Bae!

The days are slowly getting longer and the weather is getting warmer by the week. Summer will be here before we know it! Please let me know how I can support your summer wellness goals by submitting feedback in the survey below.

This week we're taking advantage of the Memorial Day flash sale for our upcoming October retreat, Reset on the River, signing up for a community sculpt class with one of my retreat co-hosts, meeting Xia in an FBW Member Spotlight, and noting the registration policy and weekly schedule (my kids are being celebrated for their academic achievements this year, so we need to cancel Thursday's class!).

Meet Xiomara
My work wife turned FBW member!
FBW: Tell us a little bit about yourself (hobbies, where you live)

XB: Hello beautiful Freedom Barre & Wellness Community! A little bit about me :) I grew up here in the SF Bay Area and I am so grateful to still call it home. I spend many of my days hiking or taking long walks in our beautiful community, traveling any chance I get near and far, enjoying a live show or a day at a museum reading a good book, and watching our Golden State Warriors and now cheering on the Valkyries.

FBW: What is your favorite thing about practicing barre?

XB: There are so many things I enjoy about practicing barre but my favorite thing is that it came to me when I needed it most. I was looking into what could be something new I could try as it has always been hard for me to stick to an exercise routine. From the first class, I could tell I liked it and wanted to do it more often. I am looking forward to making FBW central to my exercise routine and feeling more confident as I do it. I also really enjoy all the different playlists that keep the classes moving :)

FBW: What makes barre different from other modes of movement you do/have done?

XB: The seemingly little repetitive movements really push my body in challenging ways that make me more mindful as we do each movement. I can feel my mind and body working together to master each section of the class
and it just feels really fantastic the more I do it.

FBW: What would you tell someone considering trying barre at FBW?

XB: I would tell them that it may not be what you expect it to be! We hear barre and probably think of a ballet class but it is much more than that. I feel like I am working parts of my body in new ways I haven't felt before and it's a challenge that my body and mind really enjoy.

FBW: What’s the biggest thing you’ve noticed since starting your barre practice?

XB: I feel as though I am just getting stronger and in each class I am able to continue focusing on taking care of my body in a way that will benefit me as I age with gratitude and grace.

FBW: Anything else you’d like to share with the FBW community about barre in general or my classes specifically?

XB: I know we can all agree on the fact that Erica is an excellent and fun instructor who pushes us all while making sure we are feeling confident in what our bodies can do! This is my first time experiencing an exercise space that caters to femme bodies of color and focuses on how we can better care for ourselves as we move into a later phase of life and all the changes that come with it. Personally for me, it fits in seamlessly with a holistic approach to how I want to care for myself.
