Protest Medicaid Cuts
Congress is working on a bill that would gut Medicaid taking coverage away from an estimated 15 million people, cutting care for children, people with disabilities, and seniors — all while giving tax breaks to the wealthy.

These cuts aren’t minor trims. This is cutting into the heart of care — and it will lead to more ER visits, worse health, and higher costs down the road. Doctors for America (DFA) invites you to click on the link below to sign on to a letter addressed to Members of Congress. Protect your patients against legislation that would slash billions from Medicaid and food assistance causing millions of low-income people, children, seniors, and people with disabilities to suffer.

Taking Exams Could Cost You Your Freedom

A number of subspecialty certifying boards, notably including the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), require candidates for board certification to travel to take the certifying exam in person. ABOG requires every candidate to travel to Dallas, Texas, to take the exam at a time and location that ABOG makes publicly available. This Texas travel requirement imposes significant legal and physical safety risks to physicians who provide abortion in other states, especially those who provide care to patients traveling from Texas. These risks include, for example:
  • Being arrested;
  • Being served with a lawsuit and being forced to expend time and money to defend oneself in court;
  • Physical harm from extremists who may target a testing center with violence when they know abortion providers or gender affirming care providers may be present; and
  • For pregnant, trans, and nonbinary test-takers, being unable to obtain necessary medical care while in state, including emergency care.

Your voice is needed to submit a comment to the American Medical Association’s Council on Medical Education (Reference Committee C) (“Committee”) regarding its position towards specialty certifying boards that require candidates to take certifying exams in-person in states that ban abortion, gender affirming care, or other reproductive health care. Only AMA members with an account are able to login and submit a comment, but any member may submit on behalf of a group. The AMA needs to hear from more physician and medical student member voices in response to this report. These comments are due on Thursday, May 22, at 12:00pm noon Central Time. Doctors for America is submitting an organizational comment on this issue, please join us and add your voice as an individual member!
