Issue #40 | May 18, 2025

Welcome back to Beyond the Tour where twice a month you'll receive practical tips and resources to help you get better at what you do. No fluff. All business.

Let's do this.
Miriam
If You Do One Thing This Week:
1. 🔣 Be realistic.
Please be realistic when setting enrollment projections for next year. If your school has been consistently enrolling X # of students, you're not going to hit X + 10%, just because your Head of School wants it to happen. Enrollment growth takes strategy and hard work. It's just not going to happen on its own.

If your Head of School or Board arbitrarily says “Let's increase by 10% next year!” ask them what data they have that supports that projection. It's better to be realistic and work hard to exceed expectations than to plan for fantasy numbers that only set you up for disappointment and budget shortcomings.

Stick to data. Be realistic.

2 Tips to DO MORE:

2. 💡 Can't stop. Won't stop.
It's time to connect with principals and outplacement directors at feeder schools to talk about the class they will graduate in the Spring of 2026.

How to get started? Keep reading:
  • Make a list of at least 3 feeders and the professionals you want to meet there.
  • Take them to lunch or coffee over the summer.
  • Ask them what is important to this year's graduating families.
  • Highlight for them how your program is the best next step for their families.
Use the slower days of spring and summer to nurture these relationships. Next Fall, you'll be happy you did when you're cooking at the beginning of the recruitment season.

Fall of 2026, you'll be even happier when you have a full incoming class.

3. ↗️ Sharing is caring.
In our Admission office, we hold a lot of information that other school administrators want to see. But a lot of that information is not something we can fully share.

Here's a tip: Create a Google spreadsheet that has some, but not all information on it, and share it with other people who need to know information at school.
