Welcome to our May Newsletter!

Our Social Change Programme, now in its eighth year, was created in response to issues impacting our diverse community arising from Brexit, Trump and the Black Lives Matter movement. It has brought people from different backgrounds together to challenge stigma, prejudice and structural inequality; to celebrate our differences and create space for unheard voices.

Today, the programme faces both new challenges and new opportunities: a need for deeper grassroots community engagement; the rising impact of poverty; increasing hostility towards marginalised and migrant communities; and—on a brighter note— emerging avenues for research collaborations.

So, with Nova now supporting over 2,500 people each year, we will be weaving the Social Change programme more closely into our grassroots work to meet these challenges. Our increased reach and strong partnerships, built over the years with both local and globally recognised institutions, mean we are better placed than ever to connect lived experience with those who hold influence and power.

We look forward to sharing more with you soon.

A trip to Parliament

Off to the heart of UK democracy — to tour the House of Commons, admire its architecture and artwork and see British political history come to life.

The visit was part of our commitment to encouraging civic participation, helping people better understand how democracy works and how they can engage with it.

The group of 27 also met the Chief of Staff for Joe Powell, our local MP, who listened to concerns about healthcare, benefits and environmental safety. Plans are now underway for Joe to visit Nova soon.
Always lovely to be recognised…
Mayor's Award

Alex, our Head of Information, Advice and Guidance, was delighted to receive, on behalf of Nova, a Mayor's Award recognising organisations that have made outstanding contributions to local life.

"Nova’s dedication to improving the lives of residents has empowered individuals to enhance their financial stability, mental and physical health, and overall wellbeing. Through their compassionate, empathetic and comprehensive approach, Nova truly sets the standard for community care and support."

Seeds of growth
Gardening club blooms

Sunshine, soil and small hands hard at work — our Children’s Gardening Club, run in partnership with Westway Trust, is helping young minds connect with nature in fun and meaningful ways.

As they plant, water and watch things grow, children are learning that good things take time, care and patience — a quiet antidote to the rush and stresses of modern life to benefit people of all ages.

It’s a joyful mix of exercise, exploration and environmental awareness, with plenty of muddy hands and proud smiles along the way. 🌿

8 Years On

Next month will mark eight years since the Grenfell Tower fire.

Whether with others, or in quiet reflection, we hope you will find a moment to commemorate this terrible tragedy, which continues to impact the lives of many in our community.
