When I write a Housewife Assassin novel, I don't usually listen to music. I have to focus solely on putting the plot on the page.
But as I get toward the end of the process, I'm exhilarated. It's like coming out of a very long tunnel and seeing the glimmer of light beckoning me closer to the book's final chapter.
As with any journey, the creation of a novel begins with a destination. It's not as simple as “I want to finish this book” but more like “Here's the what-if premise, which should end up with this you-don't-see-it-coming conclusion.”
I'm hardly alone on my ride through this through dark place. My readers ride shotgun, And their reviews (thank you very much, folks!) encourage others to come along and enjoy the ride.
As I re-read the finished manuscript, I reward myself by listening to music. The song above, Boss Señorita, written and performed by Lee Coulter, is a perfect example: upbeat, and great lyrics that tell a fun story. Since it's about a kick-ass lass whose up against so guys who think they've got her number: not unlike my heroine, Donna.
