May 23rd is the 143rd day of the year, and here in Pennsylvania, it’s an official Day of Kindness in honor of Fred Rogers. I think most of you know I'm the original Mr. Rogers fan girl, and my family always celebrates 143 Day.

1-4-3 was Mr. Rogers' code for “I love you.” So on the 143rd day of the year, we share acts of kindness and good deeds. You can read more about it and check out some ideas for spreading kindness at this site.

 

Especially now, we could all use some kindness and light. If you’re inspired to join in, I’d love to hear what you did! Pop into The Neighborhood this weekend and post in this thread if you'd care to share your act of kindness.

 

It may seem trite or saccharine to spread kindness when the world is so troubled, but in the words of Fred Rogers, “Some days, doing ‘the best we can’ may still fall short of what we would like to be able to do, but life isn’t perfect on any front—and doing what we can with what we have is the most we should expect of ourselves or anyone else.” So I'll be doing what I can with what I have.
