Hey Muses! Happy May!

This year, I’ve been working with a creative firm, Random on Purpose (RoP), to help me with my social media presence, do a content audit, and create a social media calendar. It’s been a great experience, and I’ll dive into that later. The founder of RoP, Kabria, suggested I write a reintroduction post because of my many roles, identities, and the intersections between them all. So—here we are. Let’s dig in. This may be a long-ish intro, so grab a kombucha and chill for a bit.

My 10–2 (not a 9–5 because I’m part time) is with a family foundation, and we give grants to non-profits in Philly. My title is Philanthropic Partnerships Coordinator. What do I do with that long title? I check in with our current grantees, chat with prospective grantees, and aim to connect those orgs with available resources—capacity building, funding, partners, etc. I take a lot of calls, listen/watch webinars and attend partner events.

For museologie, I am a fitness trainer for older adults, mainly the 60+ population. I also enjoy working with individuals whose muscles have atrophied due to illness (think: a person recovering from long-term illness, a stroke, etc.). In addition to training, I also provide wellness education—specifically the 8 dimensions of wellness and amplifying their interconnectedness—through my newsletter and workshops.

Becoming a mom has undoubtedly transformed what I want to do now and in the future with museologie. It’s changed how I advocate for myself and has reshaped what’s important in this moment. I think a lot about my role in shaping my daughter's future.

Harmony Lillie is 8 months old, and being her mom has been easy. Navigating the life changes that come with motherhood has been more turbulent. Right now, I’m working to recalibrate balance in my life—what does it mean to work every day, take care of myself, and have her with me? How can I be fully present for Harmony while working on my personal endeavors? When do I find time to get to the gym? I need to cook, clean, make sure there’s clean diapers and baby clothes. It’s tough. I haven’t figured out the answers yet, but I’m working on putting systems in place to support me and working to find community for both of us.

My goal with this reintroduction is to let folks who may only know me through my philanthropy work or my wellness/fitness work get to know the other sides. One thing I’d like to do is post more, and working with Random on Purpose is helping me build a game plan.

This isn't the full post, find the post + cute baby photos on my blog. Read it here.

Wellness Corner

Creative Wellness: Art Journaling is something I've never heard of, and this one is not for me, but maybe it's for you. It seems pretty cool- It's a way to express yourself with visuals, and not words. Here's info on what it is, how to get started and some prompts.

Physical Wellness: That's “NEAT” bro. In school, I learned about NEAT- non-exercise activity thermogenesis. Don't fret, it's not complicated- it's all activity outside of planned exercise, sleeping, and eating. Things such as walking up the steps, doing chores (sweeping), shopping, random office stretches, etc. Of course, there's more science behind it, but NEAT boosts your health. It's really as simple as taking the stairs and not the elevator. Introduce yourself to NEAT now and we'll talk more about it later.

Digital Wellness: In between a car nap and errands, a podcast I'd saved but rarely listened to started playing automatically and the topic was about how to stop being so addicted to our phones. Search Engine had a great episode and one question posed: “ how do I make technology/social media something I do on purpose and not a thing that is happening to me all the time?” stuck with me. Take a listen

Financial Wellness: Leave this webinar with actionable steps to take to move from uncertainty to empowerment in regards to money moves with the ever-changing headlines and chaos from the White House. This is from Invest for Better and the speaker is Anna N’Jie-Konte. I've written about Invest for Better and how it's helped me think about and start aligning my money with my values. If you're around, Philly has an active community.

Today is National Senior Health and Fitness Day. One thing I'd like to highlight is that working out has immediate and long term health benefits for older adults. The biggest thing you need to know is that moving your body as much as you're physically able to will yield benefits. You may not get the recommended 150 minutes/week of moment, and that's fine. For many, 150 minutes is ambitious, but adding in a few extra sit to stands or stretching in the morning helps. One thing Harmony does which I've started adding in my sessions: roll those ankles- in both directions. And then add shoulder shrugs, and hip circles, too!
Remember:
Wellness includes physical, occupational, social, financial, mental/emotional, spiritual and creative health. It's all about balance!

That's your wellness corner!
