Greetings First name / friend, Can you believe it’s June already? Time sure flies. Thanks for joining me for another newsletter. This month, we’re diving into the important role language plays in how we perceive the world—and how a few simple shifts can empower the way we communicate, with others and, most importantly, with our own minds. |
Let’s wrap our heads around this concept for a moment: the way we talk—the words we choose, our tone, even the way we say something—reflects how we view the world and how we perceive ourselves. When you listen to someone talk about everyday life—or their passions and challenges—you’re getting a glimpse into their current mindset and underlying beliefs. You might hear optimism, pessimism, stoicism, or even a hint of self-doubt, just in how they describe what’s happening around them. As if that’s not fascinating enough, there's also a well-supported school of thought suggesting that we can nudge our worldview and beliefs through the way we use language. |
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is based on the idea that language shapes the mind and our behaviour. NLP techniques help us see our problems from new angles and connect with more helpful emotional states. One of my favourite NLP tools is the meta model—a set of questions that helps loosen rigid or limiting language. For example, if someone says, “I always mess things up,” the meta model might explore: “Always? Can you think of a time you didn’t?” Just like that, the language softens, and with it, the mindset begins to shift. |
You see, language isn’t just how we describe the world—it’s reflective of our constructed our version of it. |
In the next few newsletters, we’ll take this exploration further, learning more about how language shapes our inner world and how we can use it to cultivate a life that feels aligned, fulfilling, and true to who we are. |
Curious about how NLP or language coaching might help you personally? I'm always happy to chat. Wishing you a bright week ahead. |
