"Nature is the garment of God."
- The Zohar, A foundational text of Kabbalah

Dear First name / Friend

How is your heart in these wild times? This note is intended to share some current practices, in the event they nourish you. We all need each other right now.

While I often discuss presence and mindfulness with you, my experience of connecting with spirit has been evolving. I'm finding more clarity in my language around creation and I am increasingly including my children in my earth-based spirituality.

Earth-based spirituality is a term encompassing a variety of spiritual beliefs and practices that honor Earth as divine or sacred — and most importantly, interdependent.

This months new moon ritual seemed like a perfect opportunity to include my husband and two young boys, as it's essential for us to prepare for the summer months.

Transitions are hard. In the summer there is less routine, later bedtimes, and lots of play/output. This brings me joy, and wise trepidation:)

What is a New Moon Intention?

The New Moon is dark and expansive, much like nutrient rich soil that, with the help from sun, grows what you plant. In this way, the New Moon marks a beginning of possibilities, serving as a wonderful time to plant an intention. The Moon cycle's influence on us, as we are largely made of water, is undeniable. Yet has been ignored in our culture, so if this feels strange or new, that's expected.

How do New Moon Intentions help?

1.) New Moon intentions orient me towards what matters to me most in this precious life. Some examples include connection, play, patience, kindness, discipline, contentment, gratitude, hope, honesty… (you get the idea:)

2.) Over the first half of the month the Moon waxes, swelling with light. As I aim for my intentions it is not always easy and the barriers to those intentions are often illuminated. This provides valuable insight into what's standing in my way. As the moon reaches full, sometimes I am reaping what I have sown, dancing in the moonlight, or I am stumbling on barriers. Often it's a bit of both:)

3) As the moon wanes sometimes you can find me basking in the benefits of my intentions, while other times I'm left wondering if there is something that must be released, a barrier removed, to make way for my intention? This wisdom shapes my journey toward the next New Moon.

With this in mind our family sat around and discussed our New Moon intentions for the summer, planting seeds that will swell and burst forth, learning along the way. Maybe we succeed, maybe we fail, but we can always try again.

These are what came through for me as I imagined what I wanted, and what I would need during this transition.

I share these as perhaps they'll resonate or possibly inspire. I'd love to hear your intentions for the summer transition, just respond to this email! I promise I read them all, digest them, and appreciate them.

If I get enough responses I'm happy to compile a larger list to inspire, remind, and uplift one another as we move towards what we most care about.

I'll leave you with my mother's favorite quote: “We are all just walking each other home.” - Ram Dass
