“How do I get people to open my emails?”
- Basically every single biz owner who’s ever written an email -
Your subject line has 1 job.
To get people to open the email.
That’s it.
It doesn't need to sell, it doesn't need to tell the whole story, it doesn't need to change the world.
It just needs to grab attention and get people to take the next step.
And that's easier said than done.
Because you need to strike a balance between grabbing attention and ‘ick’ bait (clickbait).
So — how do you make your subject lines ‘open-worthy’?
Three quick ways:
👉 Build curiosity by hinting at something inside the email, like a juicy story or industry secret, so they can’t help but open your email
👉 Give them something they want by teasing an irresistible piece of value or offer
👉 Be wild by saying something so insane or weird that they HAVE to open your email to find out what the f*ck you’re talking about
I’ll let you guess which one I used in this email 😏
Just be careful to stay on brand, and that if you tease something, you DELIVER.
Which brings me to:
THIS WEEK’S EMAIL TIP: 👇
Last week, I used this subject line:
'I'm not proud of this, but…'
This is a curiosity email, called an Open Loop.
It opens a question in your mind: “WHAT is she not proud of?”
And to find out (close the loop) — you have to open the email.
Or — you have to leave the loop open (and wonder forever while the itch scratches at your brain).
Just make sure when you do this — you actually close the loop, and that your curiosity subject line actually then follows through with what you teased.
Try it yourself with your own list and see if it works!

P.S. — I just launched a Substack where I’m doing a May series on landing new clients!!!
Every day this month, I’m posting a Substack post on a different strategy I tried that day to land a client.
First post just went live (about cold pitching clients, because why not save the worst for first? 😂)
