So… I did something this week that I’m embarrassed to admit.

And honestly, I think it’s something we ALL do, but I’ve noticed most people are also embarrassed to admit to it (especially when they’re talking to ME about it).

I — used ChatGPT to do a creative’s job 🫣

(Specifically — I asked it to write code for a section on my website I was trying to do something cool with.)

Ok — so maybe you’re like, “that’s not that serious”...

But as someone who works with designers and developers, I felt SOOO guilty. Like, close-the-blinds and wear-shades-inside guilty.

But — the reality is that you don’t always have the budget to hire someone for everything in your business, especially if it’s something small, like one section of your website (or just one marketing email 👀).

Which is why — as a copywriter — I don’t judge anyone who’s writing copy with ChatGPT.

What I will say, though, is trying to get GPT to write my code was a great reminder that it’s not the same as working with a human — and it has its limitations.

The only reason I was even able to get it to create code was because I knew exactly what to ask it for — as in, I knew what to call the features I needed, the tech term for that specific animation — and I could only do that because I’ve DIY’d sites before and have a good working knowledge of web design.

If I was brand new to design? I wouldn’t have been able to get what I wanted.
It’s the same with copy. It can write decent copy — but if you don’t know which prompts to give it, or even what it needs to know about your biz to write copy that converts — it’s saving you time, but not getting you leads.

That’s why the best-case scenario = ChatGPT + prompts written by a copywriter.
Which is why I’m now focusing on creating more resources for you that include ChatGPT prompts, because I know you’re going to use it (and that’s ok! 🫶) — I just want to make sure you’re using it right.

On that note — in the very near future, I’m launching copy audits ft. AI — my signature copy audits, with added AI prompts that help you write great copy BEFORE I review it, so I can get more done in the actual review sessions and get you from ‘generic, will-this-even-work’ copy to ‘please-go-to-my-site-and-read-everything-on-there-right-now’ kind of copy.

If you're interested in being one of the first people to get access to these audits (and at beta pricing! 👀), you can sign up for the waitlist here:

Anyway.

Moral of the story is — it’s fine to use ChatGPT, and you don’t have to feel bad if you tell me in the DMs that you’re using it.

I am too.

(And — if it makes you feel even better — I asked my developer friend if it was ok and she said sure — she even uses it sometimes to speed up coding!!!)

Speak soon!

✨ THIS WEEK’S EMAIL TIP: ✨

So last week — I asked you to reply to my email and introduce yourself…

(I got SUCH great responses, FYI — reading them was the highlight of my weekend!)

The reason I did this (apart from wanting to meet you, obvs!) was because when people respond to your emails — it improves your sender reputation. This makes it easier for email providers to see you as valuable (i.e. inbox-worthy) and makes them less likely to send you to spam folders.

So — whenever it makes sense, ask your subscribers to reply to you. You then also get to talk to them and build community and really support them — it’s a win-win.
