We are so excited to help you and your classmates get ready for Rochester this fall. Our team of professional staff and Orientation Leaders are dedicated to making your transition to the University of Rochester as smooth as possible.
This is the first of our Rochester Ready newsletters you will receive throughout the summer. This newsletter (along with our website) will be your primary source for important information and key steps to preparing for the fall semester. As we get closer to your arrival on campus, we'll send these newsletters a bit more frequently. For now, the next one is scheduled to arrive in your inbox on Tuesday, June 24.

P.S. Is your email inbox crowded? No worries! Previous issues of the Rochester Ready newsletter, along with other emails from our office, will be available on our website shortly after they send.

Let's chat about academic advising.

As an incoming student, your academic advising and first-semester course registration will take place over the summer. Incoming transfer and exchange students will register as soon as they've met with their advisor in July, and first-year students will register on Wednesday, August 6. Here's what to do to make sure you get the most out of your academic advising experience:

Review the New Student Academic Guide. This online guide to academic advising, the Rochester Curriculum, and course registration will walk you through all of the steps of the summer advising process, including the next item on this list.

Complete your Academic Interests Form by Friday, June 20. This form helps the advising team assign you to the best advisor for your intended program of study, as well as your academic and professional goals.

Watch your academic advising and course registration resource video in Blackboard by Friday, June 27. This video (with separate versions for incoming first-year and transfer students) will introduce you to academic advising at the University of Rochester and explain how you'll prepare for course registration.

Set up your PathwayU account by Monday, June 30. This platform offers personalized insights into your interests, values, personality, and workplace preferences, which will help you and your advisor(s) identify meaningful experiences and opportunities.

Continue to check your Rochester email address. This is where your advisor(s) will reach out to you after the Independence Day (July 4) holiday to begin discussing your course options for the fall semester.

Request any academic disability accommodations you may need. If you are interested in accessing disability accommodations, exploring eligibility, or just identifying as a student with a disability, you encourage you to register with Disability Resources as soon as possible to make sure you're ready for your first semester.
Are you an incoming exchange student? The first four tasks and deadlines only apply to incoming degree-seeking students. Your academic tasks, along with everything else you need to know ahead of your semester(s) abroad, can be found on our website.

You and your family are invited!

Join fellow incoming students, along with current students, families, and University alumni, at virtual and in-person Welcome Celebrations, presented by the Office of Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement and the Parents Program. Beginning later this month, these events run throughout the summer and include exclusive opportunities for parents and families to connect.

First-year students: only a few spots left!
Only a few spots are left for this year's University of Rochester First-Year Orientation Outing Treks program (affectionally called UR FOOT). This program provides the opportunity to connect with fellow incoming first-year students and explore some of greater Rochester's most beautiful natural wonders. This year's program will take you on treks (of varying difficulty levels) through Chimney Bluffs State Park and Letchworth State Park, as well indoor rock climbing and kayaking along the Genesee River

Spots are limited to the first 100 first-year students to complete the registration form, which opened on Monday, June 9 at 9 a.m. (EDT). Don't miss out!

Apply to join the Rising Leader Class
First-year students: are you ready to jumpstart your leadership development journey? Apply for this fall's Rising Leader Class (CASC 350)! Specifically for first-year students, CASC 350 is a two-credit course designed to help you learn about the practice of leadership and further develop your own personal leadership style. Completing the course also satisfies the entirety of Level 1 of the Medallion Leadership Program. Apply by Sunday, July 13 at 11:55 p.m. (EDT).
