SELAH: “A musical pause or interlude, a moment for reflection and contemplation.”

Life doesn't have a pause button, but I'd say summer is the closest we get to that.
Selah is a word that tends to be associated with pause or rest.

It's considered a “prayer” or “lift up."

Selah is found in the book of Psalms 71 times and in the book of Habakkuk three times in the Hebrew Bible.

Think about some of your favorite songs. Many songs, especially ballads, have this  powerful interlude (all instrumental, no words) that leads to the big bridge where someone belts it out or the climax of the song hits.

It's the same way in our lives.

Sometimes the rest we need is a build up for the dream that God has placed in our heart to come to fruition. These moments require stillness; to sit with God, hear His voice and the whispers He puts on our hearts.

I have a hard time resting. I think a lot of us do. Even when I have days off, I'm going somewhere, constantly checking my phone (for what, I don't exactly know), working on a side project (like this), creating something or reading. I don't know how to be still.

When I lost my job in February 2022, it forced me to stop and rest. I heard God say “pause.” Because for someone like me, I immediately jumped into job searching mode, reaching out to people I knew who might need help with their businesses or side projects. But, it also reminded me that I didn't need to hustle more. I needed to be still.

Rest is just as important to the creative process as the creating is. If you're constantly scrolling social media, watching what others are doing, you'll never give your brain a break to just sit and write or find time to create something of your own.

I needed that “pause” season to get where I am now. To be ready to take on the seasons that were ahead of me. When the pauses come? Take them, soak them up and make the most of them.

I think there are multiple seasons where selah will come up in our lives. It's not just a ‘one and done’ deal. But, when they do, we have to pay close attention.

🎙️CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS🎙️

I've had a lot of fun conversations recently with local entrepreneurs and women who are killing it in their industries, from digital content creators to those who are carving their own paths. Here are a couple of those! ⬇️

Myah salinas isn't gatekeeping: she's sharing her story

Myah Salinas doesn’t believe in gatekeeping — what you see is what you get.
Now an entrepreneur and digital content creator, she’s found her niche and audience in her own corner of the internet.
Salinas didn’t set out to be an influencer, but entrepreneurship runs in her blood — starting with her parents.
Not only is she showing support for other small businesses locally in Bakersfield and Kern County, her next endeavor? Starting her own.

The wine life chose Jess Druey and now she's the founder of whiny baby

The Team Vanderpump winner of Food Stars and Whiny Baby founder, Jess Druey, didn't choose the wine life, it chose her. The pandemic made her see wine in a different light and led her into the business world.
“I didn’t set out to be a business owner—it came from an emotional need to create something that could help people connect, laugh, and feel something. While I never dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur, looking back, I can see the signs. At every job I’ve had, I wanted to be involved in every department. I love to work and innovate, which I think is why entrepreneurship is in my DNA," said Druey.

I think moving on is harder than the act of letting go.
But then comes the question of what's next and you start to wonder if you made the right decision of leaving it all behind.
IT's been said that every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.
But, sometimes, picking up the pieces of a messy situation can leave your mind feeling frazzled and filled with doubt.
It's easy to get stuck in a memory or the way you thought a situation was.

Since this month is about rest and pausing, the playlist corresponds with themes of rest, pause and taking a moment to breathe.

I want to talk to the creatives out there!  Are you a business owner? Photographer? Filmmaker? Etsy store artist? Or do you know someone? Is there someone you've heard about who's doing something so different and unique? I want to hear all about it.
I'd love to start chatting with creatives and highlighting their journey, their art and how they've persevered through the challenges and obstacles.
