Dear First name / Friend
I coached a brand-new client this week. She’s a DJ and she just landed a massive gig. She’ll be warming up for one of the biggest names in the industry.
Naturally, I asked her: “How did you make that happen?”
Her first response was “I don't know”.
So we got curious together.
She said, “Well, I played really good music.”
Then she remembered: after her last gig, she messaged the booker and said, “If anything else comes up, let me know.”
That was it. She showed up, followed up and made an offer.
The booker thought of her. Booked her. And now here we are.
But here’s what’s wild; her brain had been telling her “I should be doing more.”
Perhaps you recognise that background noise of self-criticism too?
And yet, she was doing exactly what was required. She just hadn’t noticed.
That “should” was blocking her from seeing her own power. It made her feel stuck. Like she was never doing enough, no matter what results she created.
Here’s what I want you to know:
Thinking “I should be doing more” doesn’t make you do more.
It just makes you feel worse about yourself.
And when you feel worse, you’re less likely to take action.
So you think it even louder: I should be doing more.
But now you’re in a loop of guilt and inaction.
The antidote?
Notice what's working.
Learn how you actually created the result.
Because once you know how you made something happen, you can do it again—and again.
And now my client will be warming up for one of the biggest names in the industry.
So over to you. What do you notice about what you're doing that IS working? What's going well? What are you doing that is creating the results that you want?
It doesn't have to be a rah-rah “Look at me I'm so amazing” list (although, I do highly recommend that too!)
We never want to leave our results up to “luck” or “I don't know how that amazing thing happened”
When we take time to write down things that are working and going well, we take ownership of our results, feel excited and motivated to take action, and have the the skill of creating desired results on purpose.
