Hi First name / friend,
We have a unique approach to welcoming newcomers into Pilates, and we're very proud of it!
Instead of throwing someone into a group class with no experience or instruction, we have new clients attend two Newcomer Privates. Why? Because they get better results. Sure, someone could try to pick it up as they go, but if they don't have the fundamentals, the chances for injury are much higher. You also get much more out of your workout when you know how to do it properly!
During the two one-on-one sessions, new clients learn the fundamentals of Pilates movement and breathwork. You wouldn't believe how many people we've met who have “a little” Pilates experience, but don't know what we consider to be the mandatory basics, and/or have a diagnosis (like osteoporosis) that they are not modifying for. With us, they learn how to “squish the blueberry” and use their eyes to help make a movement more effective. They get to know the equipment, how to change a spring, and stand on the reformer without falling over!
This also gives our teachers a chance to get to know them and their specific needs so that they can recommend a class that's a good fit. And when that new client gets to class, their needs will be planned for, just like they are for all our clients (which is why we work in sessions instead of drop-ins, but that's a topic for another day!)
Our Newcomer Privates help to alleviate the newbie anxiety of walking into a room full of strangers using equipment you've never been on, much less know the name of, or how to use. If you or someone you know is curious about Pilates, please send them our way!
