LET'S GET READY TO DOCUMENT & CREATE!

I am very excited to be embarking on this 21 Every Days Art Project with you!

It officially begins on July 13th and will end on August 2nd.

I hope this email helps you prep for the project, decide how you want to approach it, and get all the things you'll need to get started!

If you're here because of the Social Media Summer Break, there is no pressure in doing this! It's a suggestion and if it's not for you, feel free to skip.

I am hosting this project in conjunction with the Social Media Summer Break. If you'd like to sign up for that too, you can do so here.

OVERVIEW

For this project we'll be taking a piece of paper, splitting it up into 21 sections, and filling in one section a day. The idea is to add a little bit of creativity and exploration into our daily lives while making it easy, accessible, and fun! At the end of the 3 weeks, you'll have a mosaic of memories to look back on :)

This project is based on the last two 100 Day Projects I have done. We will be doing this on a smaller scale and you can fill in the sections however you'd like! Here's the recap video from 2025 and the recap video from 2024.

WHO IS THIS PROJECT FOR?
  • Anyone who is interested in creating, no art experience required!
  • Anyone who'd like to incorporate a little more consistent creativity into their days
  • Can be adapted for different forms of art (writing, photography, etc.)
  • Can be adapted for different ages (do this project with the kiddos in your life!)

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO DO THIS?

This project lasts for 3 weeks, 21 days. Depending on how you want to set up your paper, prep time can take as quick as 10 minutes or up to an hour or so. Once your paper is sectioned off, you can spend as little or as much time as you want on it each day. In the past I've spent 5 min to over 30 minutes on a section depending on how much time I have and the idea I had.

WHAT SUPPLIES WILL I NEED?

Here's a recommended list of supplies. Please don't feel pressure to buy a bunch of things! I love the idea of using what we have, recycling, borrowing, etc. When I did this project in the past, all I bought was the paper and tape. For the rest of the supplies, I used what I already had.

The brands and items listed below are things I currently use and love! Any Amazon links are affiliates--I may earn a small commission if you purchase from it.

If you'd like to section off your paper with tape (like in the images above), please note: I highly recommend using the specific tape and paper combo I share below because I know for sure they are compatible! If you buy the tape and use it on other paper, it's possible it'll stick and not work well and if you buy the recommended paper and use it with another tape, it may also not be compatible.

That's not to say you can't use other tape/paper combos! If you aren't sure if they will work well together, I recommend testing out the tape with the paper first before you do this entire project only to ruin it at the end with the tape not coming off smoothly! (If I can, I will bring the tape to the store with me to test it out on the paper I’m thinking of getting. I’ll use a tiny piece and stick it onto an inconspicuous corner to see if it peels off or not. It’s such a small piece of tape that it won’t ruin the paper or I will test it out on the back if the texture looks the same. This way you know for sure before buying it.)

TAPE
  • JMI Blue Painter's / Washi Tape ¼ inch This has been the tape I have had the most luck with! I use it with the Strathmore watercolor paper listed below. (This listing comes in a pack of 3, I have used the other widths for other projects!)
PAPER
  • Strathmore Watercolor Paper 130 lb, 400 Series This is the paper I use with the tape. It's great for both wet and dry mediums.
    • For this project, since we are only doing 21 sections, I recommend and will be using 8x10 inch paper.
    • This listing is linked to the 11x15 inch size. I like the larger sheets and cutting them down to smaller sizes (typically sizes that fit in standard sized frames in case I want to frame it later!) Or you can also select a smaller size depending on your needs and what else you will use the paper for.
  • If you're not using the tape, here are some other paper suggestions:
    • Mixed media or watercolor paper if working with wet/liquid mediums
    • Cardstock, scrapbook paper, thick printer paper if working with pens, markers, brush pens, and would like a smooth, non-textured surface
    • Whatever you have lying around! It can be scrap paper, a piece of poster board cut down to size, maybe even an old piece of artwork you want to cover up.
OTHER SUPPLIES
  • Basics: pencil, eraser, ruler, scissors, exacto knife, glue stick, liquid glue
  • Anything else you may want to create with! Take a look at what you have and what you may want to use. Also consider the types of things you may want to create: collages, paintings, junk journaling (in this case, you'll most likely be using bits, pieces, and scraps you come across in your day so you don't really need anything else besides an adhesive.)
WHAT DO I FILL MY SECTIONS WITH?

The intention behind this project is to capture a moment in a day and visually document it--like a journal but with some type of image instead. Try filling in each section with something that inspired you from that particular day.

I'll be sending out prompts every morning, Mon-Fri (on Fri I will include the ones for Sat and Sun) to help spark an idea, give you a theme to focus on, or help you brainstorm. These will be very short, think one or two lines, and take only a few minutes to read. Just a little something to begin the day with!

Throughout the day, notice all the things you encounter and think about how you can capture that item, color, pattern, feeling, convo, texture, smell, vibe, etc. that struck a cord with you in your section. If you are using a prompt, let that guide you or narrow your focus on what to look for.

This project is yours so please do something that feels right for you! Other suggestions:
  • Document your emotions
  • Do a project inspired by nature
  • Create a different pattern each day
  • Jot down a quote or words of wisdom
  • Use music as your inspiration
  • Document a recent vacation or trip- think about what you did, use photos, memories, and mementos to fill in your sections
HOW DO I FILL MY SECTIONS IN?

This is the fun part and there are so many ways to do this!

The first thing you may want to decide is: do you want to do different techniques each day (as someone who is interested in ALL the things, this really works for me!) or stick with the same one. Either way is fine and you can totally change your mind mid project too! But I think this is a good starting point.

Also consider what materials you want to use, if there is a focus on a specific type (for example: watercolor or markers or ink pens), or if you want to use the same tool every day and get creative with that (I think it could be really interesting to use a pencil for this entire project!)

Don't forget to also consider your schedule and what you can realistically get done. Take it easy, start small, and see how it feels. Adjust as you go and do more if you'd like or scale back and do less. It's flexible.

Here are some ideas you could try:
  • Paint one color per day
  • Create a little collage
  • Add something from your day (a piece of an envelope you got in the mail, packaging, sticker from your coffee cup, the tab from the soda you drank)
  • Doodle or do a quick sketch
  • Do comic strip type drawings
  • Paint a watercolor background then jot down a sentence about your day
  • Write a poem that fits in the section
  • Snap photos on your phone then choose one to print out and add to your project
There are endless possibilities and you are all so creative! Think outside the box, try new things, be curious and fearless :)

And for all my fellow perfectionists out there: it's ok to try something new and not like it or mess up! The interesting thing about this project is once we are done with a section, that's it we're moving on! That means we get to sit with that discomfort of what we don't like and we get to look at it with fresh eyes the next day. 99.9% of the time I come back to it and think, hey it's not that bad! And if you still don't like it, stop the urge to “fix” it. Let it be, let it go, and remember it's only one section out of 21 and it's part of the journey and process.

If you need some ideas, feel free to browse through some of my 100 Day Project posts--I try a bunch of random things and there may be something that catches your eye :) You can find them on IG or TT.

WHAT'S NEXT
  • I'll be sending out one more prep email that will include a tutorial of how to tape up your section if you'd like to do it that way! It will also include a PDF you can use in conjunction with your project.
  • The first prompt will be sent out July 13th!
  • In the meantime, brainstorm how you'd like to approach this project, gather your materials, and get ready for this creative journey we'll be going on soon :)

Whew! I know this was a long email but I wanted to try to capture as much as I could and answer any questions that you may have. If you need clarification or if there's anything you'd like some help with, please hit reply and let me know!

I am really looking forward to this!
Talk to you soon,
