Hey First name / beautiful,

Sometimes, cutting your hair is an act of rebellion; a deliberate act that signals to the world that you're your own person and you're in charge of how you show up. 💪 Sometimes, it's just a way to shed old skin and emerge fresh into a new season. Sometimes, though, it's not that deep and getting your hair cut is simply talk and connection therapy 😇

Most of us don't get our hair done to impress people. We cut, color and style it because it feels good to us; because it makes our outfits look better, because it makes our lives easier. You may opt to cut it all off, cut off an inch to preserve the length, or keep it all and treat and gloss it instead 💅

Now that we're in September and summer is technically over, depending on where you are on planet Earth, we are more than ready for a new look and a new feeling. The summer humidity, sun and sand tend to leave our hair feeling dry, crispy and discoloured. ☀️

So, be it a new color, texture … and whether you're feeling bold, romantic, feminine and soft, or rebellious, there's a haircut for every mood. 🕺

Let's talk about recent cuts I've done since June, a blowdry tutorial that may help you finally figure out your hair, what I learned at the Sassoon Academy in Toronto, and shop my favorites on Amazon! 🛒

recent cuts:
bobs, wolf, layers

There was a post I'd put out on Tik Tok almost a year ago BEGGING for someone to let me cut their hair into a bob. Well, the Universe delivered and now bobs are a major go-to when clients book. I'm in love with them because they are so versatile. They've evolved into layered bobs with bangs and tons of movement.

🤎 You can literally have any bob shape or length you want because each one is customized to you - your lifestyle, your texture, your styling, and your individual features.

🤎 You can go without bangs, with bangs, add layers or remove layers completely.

🤎 You can have a blunt bob like Skavrula, a layered bob with a soft fringe like Muna or the now infamous Carla bob – a longer layered and voluminous 90's bob.

🤎 Now if you're feeling bold, the wolf cut has NOT gone out of style. You can have a short and edgy wolf cut with baby bangs in its natural curly texture like Alondra, or a longer shag haircut that's more feminine like Lise-Marie's.

🤎 We also love the Hush Cut, a sister to the wolf cut that rounds underneath with very stringy, light ends.

what i learned at the
Sassoon Academy in Toronto
this summer ✂

While I was away in Canada visiting family this summer, I signed up to the Harvard of haircutting schools - the Sassoon Academy in downtown Toronto.

Since I've never been formally trained in haircutting, this was my chance to learn all the rules so I could break them 🤭

Vidal Sassoon was the British hairdresser responsible for creating the graduated bob and all its variations. His legacy lives on because the guidelines in haircutting taught at his schools are timeless.

🤎 Head shape is just as important as face shape.

🤎 Where your layers start is where the focal point will be. Start your layers where you want to accentuate your favorite feature on your face.

🤎 A side swept bang softens the face, so if you're self-conscious about a particular facial feature, consider a side parting.

🤎 Layers remove weight from the hair, which is why adding layers = more movement. They don't add volume.

🤎 The hair at the back of your head grows faster than the front and top.

You can now learn how to blowdry your hair properly using professional products and round brushes in this 7-part Blowdry Bootcamp series we filmed with my client Dana back in June.

I'd cut her hair into this beautiful shag-inspired long layered cut with bangs, but she never wears her hair curly and is a chronic blowdryer.

So she reaches out to me one day asking whether she can come in to The Den Salon and have me teach her how to blowdry her hair.

I said, “of course! But we gotta film it so everyone can learn!”

If you've been waiting to shop the products and tools I use, my UAE Amazon store is now live. I've got the categories laid out, and I'm keeping it easy and simple for now.

You can browse Affordable Haircare, Anti-Frizz products, Leave-In Treatments, and Tools like my favorite Olivia Garden round brushes.

Quick disclaimer - I don't fully trust the beauty products sold on Amazon tbh, and I will always encourage you to shop from an authorized retailer or your local salon. Most salons are owned by women and are their only source of income. Always try to support small business if you can, not Bezos. Make sure you test the products and return them if they smell funky.

✨product of the month✨

This month we're all hailing Vatika 🙌

Yes, the inexpensive brand you get at the supermarket. I've actually been very pleasantly surprised to find it's one of the few affordable shampoos that makes my tangly, straw-like hair shiny, smooth and wavy.

I've read the ingredients and some of the formulas are packed with things like olive oil extract, henna extract, amla oil extract and sweet almond oil

I've been using the Volume & Thickness one and recently am trying out the mask for extra hydration for my sad, crispy ends.

I LOVE the way my hair feels. It's not a miracle cure, but can make your hair more manageable with its hydrating ingredients.
