“I don't have
time.”
Happy Monday First name / friend!

When it comes to styling, I hear this statement a lot… and I GET it.

Between work in / outside of the home, kids' academics / activities / social / emotional, health, meals, vacation planning, volunteering, elderly parents, grooming, and the upkeep of a home- who has time for clothes??!!!  Who has time for the husband, either- that guy also usually gets the shaft.

Here's the thing about working on your wardrobe- it's kind of like exercise.  If you can make a small investment regularly, you will get long-term payoffs.  It also gets easier the more you make it a habit.  It builds and compounds, and then you're getting benefits from it that pervade all the other parts of your life.  But you've gotta do the RIGHT exercises and at the right level for optimal results.  And that's where an expert can help!

A style coach is going to assess where you're at, where you want to be, and how to get you there.  Then they can prescribe small steps to take in order to get you from A to B.  It's not rocket science.  It's not bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!  It's literally taking one step building on another until you feel GREAT everyday.

Hours and hours of a huge style makeover is not effective.  Because that's a point in time.  Your lifestyle may change.  Your occasions may change.  Your size may change.  But if you do a little bit every week or month, you are figuring out what stands the test of time.

Investing small amounts of time in your dream style WILL pay off.  And before you know it, you'll be getting ready in a pinch, walking around confidently and happily, and focusing on the world around you instead of what's on your body!

Here are my personal tips for how to work on your style in SMALL doses:
TIP 1: weekly top 3
I know outfit planning seems overwhelming, because you're staring at your entire closet and thinking about a crazy number outfits at once.  But just take THIS WEEK- and consider, “what are the top 3 moments this week I want to get dressed for?"  It could be anything- workout & coffee with a friend, dinner out with the family, or a big meeting.  Maybe it's a summer bbq or a birthday celebration for a friend.  Think about those top 3 occasions and just plan outfits for those!  Even if you don't end up wearing what you planned, you'll see why- and you will learn and grow in your style journey.

TIP 2: DAILY DISCARD
This is NOT necessarily getting rid of 1 item a day- but just that you ASSESS what you wear each day.  Should it should still remain in your wardrobe or not?  Try to wear pieces you haven't worn in a while and see how they feel OUT.  If they are worn, torn, stained, uncomfortable or just not making you feel like YOU- then as soon as you take them off, put them in a discard pile.  Don't wait for the big annual cleanout to get rid of stuff, do it as you go, and it will be MUCH more manageable and save you time!  As you discard, you will see gaps in your wardrobe- those are perfect candidates for Tip #3.

tip 3: short shop
Shopping shouldn't be a multi-hour marathon.  When you get lost in a store's clothing and accessories, you are getting farther away from your wardrobe gaps.  I would suggest more frequent, short trips with a specific item or 2 in mind.  If you are doing online shopping, don't feel the need to shop EVERY category of a retailer before you check out.  Be focused on the specific item you need to complete your looks, then move on.  The shorter the trip, the better you will manage your time AND your budget.  Browsing a bunch of clearance is tempting, but not going to help you in your journey!
