Last month, we addressed a lot of front-end challenges and made significant progress on the server side as well. Here is a detailed breakdown of what was accomplished.
What's New and Improved?
New logo: For a while now, we've heard your calls for a logo that matches our energy and innovation. We took that feedback to heart and went back to the drawing board—literally. We're beyond excited to unveil our new logo, a stunning piece of hand-drawn artistry that you'll now find on our website and everywhere you connect with us. This new look is a nod to our future, and we're so happy to share it with you first. We can't wait to hear what you think!.
New hardware: The card scanner requires a lot of processing. To train the AI models but also to analyse all your scans (more than 50k scans already!). The previous hardware we were using was fine, but a bit too slow to scale correctly. We just deployed new hardware making things 40 times faster! (From 400ms to 10ms) Not only it's faster, it will also allow us to develop new models to improve cards detection (The List, stamped cards, etc.). You can already enjoy the benefit of the new hardware.
Document scanner: We deployed a new option for you to be able to use a document scanner! Put a pile of cards, press a button, get 100 cards scanned without having to do anything! This is a very fast and efficient way to build your inventory. Below is a demo of that feature.
Google Gemini: Google Gemini is one of the models we using in the background. It's efficient, but it's also very slow! (up to 10 seconds per card). Also, they have recently changed they billing conditions, generating big spends for Gestic. When our models fail to recognize a card, it is sent to Gemini for a second opinion. Unfortunately, this we only adding a few percents to the chances of prediction, for a high price. So we have decided to put Gemini as optional, and off by default. If you are using an external webcam or a document scanner Gemini is definitely not required and will just slowdown your experience. Avoid it! If you are using your cell phone, you might be better to have it on.
Front end updates: Again, a lot of improvements on the interface side. Here are some:
Ability to add and chose your destination list from the scan page.
Improved the scan review process and layout.
Make Gemini usage configurable in the scan page.
Coming Next:
Automatic Scanning Trigger: I feel like I'm repeating this month over month. But the Automatic Scanning Trigger is definitely on the road map. There is just too many things to be done and some priorities are re-shuffled.
Network upgrade: We are still upgrading the bandwidth of our internet access as well as the network between the different equipment all with 2.5Gb connections. A service downtime will be required and will be communicated on the website front page.
Collection analytic page: We will soon provide you with detailed analysis of your own collection. Stay tuned! But if you are curious, you can already have a look there: https://gestic.org/analytics.html
As always, We Need Your Input!
Keep the Ideas Coming: Your feedback is crucial to Gestic's growth. What features are you enjoying? What can we improve? Many of our best features, like the card scanner, started as user suggestions! This month, the automated document scanner was a user suggestion. Thanks a lot for that.
Help Us Expand Our LGS Network: Don't see your favorite local game store on Gestic? Let us know, and we'll work on adding it! This makes it easier than ever to find the cards you need locally.
Highlighted Feature of the Month: Card Selection
Did you know there is a powerful selection tool available? When you want to create separated lists from your collection, you might want to be able to selected based on many different criteria. We will show you here how to easily create a list of the cards you might be open to sale or exchange.
Let's first create a list called “For sale” where we will list all the cards from Bloomburrow that we are looking for sale.
Next step will be to go in your collection and filter for this specific set. This is achieved by opening the tool box and select the filter option.
Just select from the filter window the set you want to process. Bloomburrow for this example. This will update the display of your collection to show only the cards from that set. Then go again in the tool box and this time select the “select” icon.
Using the “Advanced” button make sure to fully open the selection window, so you can see all the possible options. Is the example below, I'm selecting all the cards that I have after the first, but I will consider the different languages as different cards. I will keep at least one foil or one non foil of each of them. Everything else will be selected.
When the selection is done, the action box above the list is opened. You can then decide if you want to remove those cards from your collection (the move command) or just copy them in the selling list and remove them later when they are sold (copy). You can also use the delete option to clean them.
This is definitely something you might want to use when you start moving cards around your lists! You can easily just select all, or some, apply filters before selection, move, copy, etc. any card from any list! We hope you will benefit from this!
Thanks for being an incredible part of Gestic's journey. Your support means the world to us,
