In April of 2026 the Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation’s Student Author Series will bring Lily Brooks Dalton.  Lily’s book—The Light Pirate—was the runner-up in fiction in 2023.
 
Lily’s conversation with students will take place at Kettering Fairmont High School on Thursday, April 16.
 
The cost to participate in this successful and longstanding program remains $500. The $500 program membership includes attendance to the author event, books, a curriculum, and more. The curriculum can be used in sections or as a whole plan at the teacher's discretion. Sign up now to have books in hand soon.

If you know any high school teacher who may be interested please share this information with them. This book has potential cross curriculars with english, science, and social studies.

Student Author Series Membership
Virtual and in-person membership will be available. If you are interested in joining this event, please contact our Program Manager, Emily Moore at emily@daytonliterarypeaceprize.org.
 
Author Series membership includes a class set of 25 copies of The Light Pirate with the opportunity to purchase more at a heavily discounted price. Access to The Light Pirate curriculum produced for our Teaching Peace through Literature series that adheres to state and national standards and includes:
  • A suggested reading schedule with daily reading/writing/discussion activities and additional resources available to teachers.
  • A series of lessons based on The Light Pirate also includes the following:
    • − Procedures: Self Induction, Development, Questions, Closure, and Assessment, Follow Up, and Reflective Self Evaluation.
  • Each lesson also includes the following:
    • Goals with Relevant Standards/Benchmark Indicators
    • Behavioral Objectives
    • Materials
    • Prerequisite Knowledge
    • Peer Editing Forms for Writing Assignments
    • Grading Rubrics for Writing Assignments
    • Opportunities for cross-curricular planning and engagement
  • This curriculum can be used as written or adapted into an existing curriculum. The teacher is provided with all of the instructional materials to use as appropriate to their curriculum.
