Happy Independence Day!
Here is a link for the free Independence Day lesson. As I think back on the beautiful and hopeful stories we have read throughout our years as homeschoolers, I remember so many inspiring essays on freedom. This one, from our time in the Little House on the Prairie books for Playful Pioneers, especially resonates.
"Laura and Carrie knew the Declaration of Independence by heart. How many could say that these days? And it meant something too. It gave them a solemn, glorious feeling to hear the words. When he was done, no one cheered. It was more of an “Amen” moment. There were really no words. When was the last time that we heard the Declaration recited on Independence Day, or any day really?
Pa begins to sing, and soon, everyone is singing:
My country, ’tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing…
Long may out land be bright
With Freedom’s holy light.
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!
And Laura had a thought. The Declaration and the song came together in her mind and she thought: God is America’s king. Americans are free. They have to obey their own consciences. This is what it means to be free.
“Our father’s God, author of liberty —”
The laws of Nature and of Nature’s God endow you with a right to life and liberty. Then you have to keep laws of God, for God’s law is the only thing that gives you a right to be free."

In the Peaceful Press resources we read first hand accounts like these, along with primary documents to help our children understand what virtue is, and how to live in freedom, but sometimes we need a little help to learn to govern ourselves and our children. Freedom is dependent on living a life of discipline and balance, but sometimes we need a little support to develop those habits.
Small things like reading aloud to our children, looking them in the eyes, teaching chores, and having moments in nature can lead to a life of spiritual and mental freedom, but having friends to walk the journey with is a big part of achieving these goals.
In the Restoration Home Community we support your pursuit of wholeness through weekly habit trackers, sweet and simple lessons for family connection, monthly mentor mom meetings covering important subjects like taking your thoughts captive, nourishing your family, and homeschooling with toddlers, as well as an inspiring book club with For the Family's Sake.
We only open four times a year, and summer is the perfect time to work on better habits for a happier homeschool year.
We close the community in just a week, so start nurturing better habits with us today.
