| | | WEEK 1 | TAKE ACTION | DAY 1 |
 |
| | “The act of writing itself is like an act of love. There is contact. There is exchange too. We no longer know whether the words come out of the ink onto the page, or whether they emerge from the page itself where they were sleeping, the ink merely giving them colour.” – Georges Rodenbach, The Bells of Bruges |

| | Trade in texting, typing, and dictating for pen and paper. Take some time to explore writing, whether for yourself or for others. Besides allowing us to communicate, writing has been shown to have positive effects on our brains including improved memory, learning, and cognitive development. Here are a few ideas for putting pen to paper: To say thanks and express gratitudeTo share a favorite memoryTo celebrate an upcoming birthday, milestone, pet's birthday, friendversary, holiday, etc.To extend an invitation (even if it's for a simple coffee date or to go to the movies :))Write a letter to yourself. For additional inspiration, watch a short video and read about The Dear Me Project where members of a community picked a random age out of a hat (could be 0, could be 130!) and wrote to themselves at that age. You can try the same or write to your future/past self.
You can also interpret this action by reading something someone else has written--pick up a book and spend some time getting lost in it. |
 |
| | Keep an eye/ear out for words today: notice text on signs / junk mail / food packaging, conversations (between people, on podcasts or the radio, etc.), in your favorite book, in song lyrics, and text you may stumble upon. Jot it down in today's section, cut out a phrase from a magazine or newspaper, experiment with lettering or calligraphy, or try a blackout poem . |
