Hello and welcome to my July newsletter, I'm glad you're here. Now that we are fully in the belly of the Summer season, you may be searching for things to do *after dark. Luckily New Mexico has some of the best spots in the country for stargazing. With nine certified Dark Sky Parks, and plenty of other places too, our state is one of the top destinations for travelers to visit with the goal of viewing the night skies. Aren't we fortunate to be here already?! I'd love to hear about your favorite sky viewing places in the state. |

Stargazing in New Mexico has always been an authentic and sacred experience. For thousands of years, Ancestral New Mexicans have felt a revered connection with the night skies, stars and planets. To this day, many residents maintain profound ties with the celestial realm that go far beyond what meets the eye. The skies serve as a guide in daily living and spiritual ceremony. Looking to the heavens for guidance, inspiration and a sense of perspective is a practice that remains constant across geography and population. |

New Mexico is home to gold and silver-tier Dark Sky Parks, certified by the International Dark Sky Association. Our dry climate, higher elevations and percentage of clear nights create the perfect environment for viewing expansive dark night skies. Outside of the cities, open land and low population/light pollution add even more probability of seeing much more than in highly population dense and pollution prone cities. These are some of the very best places to check out if you're planning a stargazing trip soon. |

A silver-tier Dark Sky Park since 2016, Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument is a favorite site to observe the Milky Way due to the diminished light pollution in the surrounding area. In fact, it is one of the few locations in the country where you can see the galaxy with your own eyes! Although this site closes at night, it is regularly open to supervised public access. From April through October, park staff and volunteers host a number of programs dedicated to night sky viewing. These programs may consist of ranger guided walks through the mission and pueblo, access to park telescopes and even a dark sky photography workshop. Prominent features visible during the summer months include the Milky Way, Sagittarius, Scorpius, Ursa Major (Big Dipper), Ursa Minor (Little Dipper), Corona Borealis, Cygnus, Jupiter and Saturn. Check their site for more information. |

While the list above covers the certified Dark Sky Parks around the state, there are many other destinations where you can observe some of the darkest night skies in the country; some even offer special, organized events throughout the year. One of the favorite spots for visitors and photographers to capture the expansive night sky is White Sands National Park. The park extends hours from their normal closing time on full moon nights so that patrons can experience the magic of the expansive white sand dunes below and dark skies above. On some full moon evenings, they even have live music, ranger programs and guest presenters/artists. Check their site for more information and dates for these special events. Other places to check for night sky programming are: Bandelier National Monument, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, City of Rocks State Park, El Malpais National Monument, Oliver Lee State Park, and Magdalena, NM. |

The Summer real estate market is the time to buy with less competition for that perfect house! Buyers, you have a better chance of getting your new home for less than listed price and/or negotiating sellers to pay some of your closing costs. Now through August there are less buyers in the market and inventory is higher. This may be the sweet spot for finding your dream home, give me a call and let's start your search. Sellers, as the temperatures begin to cool in mid-September, the Fall market starts to heat up with more buyers who want to get settled before the holiday season. If you have been thinking of selling, call me so we can get your house ready to go on the market in September! |

Thanks for joining me again this month. Can you believe the year is more than halfway over already?! While the Summer days are long and hot, before we know it the Fall season will be upon us. What are you most looking forward to in the coming months? Do you have a trip planned or maybe a celebration that you're looking forward to? Send me a message and tell me about it. |
