{Gathered Goodness}
This week, I'm not going to share any links in Gathered Goodness.
I'd like to share some info that I learned last week that may help one of you at some point.
^^^^ I recently had a mammogram and a DEXA (bone density) scan. Mammogram came back fine. It had been 4 years since I'd had a DEXA scan, and although I'm still in the “normal” range, there was definitely some bone loss since the last scan. I'm post-menopausal now, and it's something I need to be paying attention to. I can't just keep skating along thinking “I'll be fine” taking my Viactiv calcium chews at night and doing some exercise several times a week.^^^^
Recommendations: Increase weight-bearing exercise, be sure to get 1200 mg calcium per day, but keep in mind only 600 mg can be absorbed at a time. Too much calcium can be bad for your heart and cause kidney stones. Start taking 1000 IU daily of Vitamin D3. Get vitamin levels checked in yearly labs and get another DEXA scan in 2 years.
If any of you have any info to share about your experience or knowledge, please reply and let me know. I'll share it with our group if you'd like!
