BLUE IS THE NEW BLACK

Or at least that's what the internet is saying right now, thanks to a 6'4" goth who became a viral sensation overnight when photos of her playing in eyeliner and platforms found their way onto the internet, which has collectively agreed that she's the best thing that's ever happened. It's always these canon events in culture that remind us of the basics, like the fact that being unapologetically yourself is the best strategy, and different is good.

We've been watching our people light up screens and runways from Brisbane courts to Parisian streets. It's been a beautiful type of chaos. The kind where our models accidentally break the internet. Where our photographers contemplate Simone de Beauvoir between Rick Owens shows. Where we somehow convinced ourselves that building an entire casting ecosystem was a totally normal Tuesday activity.

Welcome to Nice Paper ☺︎ A bi-monthly excuse to tell you about the incredible humans in our orbit, the chaos they're creating, and whatever else is too good not to share.

Happy reading!

LIFE INSIDE THE CYCLONE WITH CAITLIN DARK

One minute you're playing rec-league basketball in full goth makeup. The next, Hollywood actors are in your DMs, every major publication is asking for an interview and Instagram comment sections are melting down. That’s the week Caitlin Cunningham just had.

Caitlin’s gone viral in pro sports media, fashion circles, TikTok, and beyond - sparking the same reaction everywhere: Who is this, and how are they this cool? Their unapologetic self-expression, the black and the blue, and their unfiltered energy are striking a chord far beyond the court from the 6'4 enigma.

We caught up with her in the eye of the storm to talk internet fame, authenticity, and how it feels when the Pete Davidson jokes start rolling in.

YAMAHA MUSIC SESSIONS

Four models. Every Yamaha instrument imaginable. One studio session that became a global campaign. We let them jam, we rolled cameras, and somehow convinced a major brand that authenticity beats art direction every time.

PARIS FASHION WEEK

By Alice Naish

For two days during her first Paris Fashion Week, photographer Alice Naish didn't take a single photo. She was burnt out, creatively blocked, and searching for a spark. So she walked, she listened, and she wrote about it.

Her diary is a powerful reminder that sometimes the best way to see something clearly is to put the camera down first. It’s an honest, beautiful piece of writing.

SO, WHAT DO YOU DO?

By Hannah Jayde

Each issue, a creative we admire is taking over this corner of Nice Paper. First up is designer and friend of the agency Hannah Jayde, on the one question every creative dreads.

"I get asked a lot, ‘What do you do with yourself?’ I usually laugh and say ‘a bit of everything,’ because somewhere between how I stack the dishes and lay out my journals, I realised graphic design wasn’t just a career. It’s a creative practice that manifests in my daily rituals. Creativity isn’t luck; it’s a skill that calls for rule-breaking and limitless curiosity."

Whatever you now find weird, ugly,  uncomfortable and nasty about a new  medium will surely become its signature.
