Join us for a practical and empowering session designed to equip advocates with the skills needed to defend and advance reproductive rights through legislative action. We’ll cover the structure of legislative government and sessions, how to identify and build relationships with key stakeholders, strategies for navigating tough conversations, and how to set both short- and long-term goals to protect and expand reproductive access.

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) requires that hospitals with emergency departments provide health-saving and lifesaving abortion care to patients experiencing medical crises. Doctors for America is concerned that, contrary to EMTALA, access to emergency abortion care is nonetheless being restricted in some emergency departments. Op-eds provide a powerful platform for raising awareness about critical issues, shaping public discourse and influencing policy. 

 

Join Jennifer Obel, MD (prior freelance journalist for the Washington Post and Spokesperson for ASCO) for hands-on training for DFA advocates who want to learn how to use patient stories and personal experiences to create and pitch compelling op-eds and letters to the editor. Editors from DFA's Op-Ed Review Committee will offer you a chance to test and discuss your material and outline and hone the article for greatest publication success and to see if you can influence their point of view. All experience levels are welcome. The only thing you need is an idea of what you want to write about.
