It's Tomato Season!

This email is part of a 🍅 food-focused segment of Piano Pantry which will come no more than once a month. If you would like to opt-out of these types of emails but remain on the general email list, click here.

August is when tomatoes reach their peak in this part of the world—otherwise known as heaven’s month (LOL).

In this email, I wanted to share a half-dozen recipe ideas that put beautiful tomatoes front and center.

I was very selective in curating this list. My criteria were:
1. The tomato had to be the star of the show.
2. The recipe couldn’t be behind a paywall.

That second one was tough—some of the best recipes I come across are from membership sites like Milk Street and America’s Test Kitchen—but I wanted to make sure everything I shared was accessible to everyone.

Before we dive into the recipes, I have to tell you about the one simple way I eat beefsteak tomatoes that I crave and could honestly eat for lunch every single day this time of year—and it’s not even a recipe.

A thick slice of tomato on buttered bread.

It’s even better with a soft, beautiful bread like sourdough and a rich Irish or European-style butter (they have a higher butterfat content). My favorite splurge is Kerrygold Irish Butter, and my favorite everyday spread is Brummel & Brown.

Be generous with the butter, people. At least once.

Then sprinkle with Kosher salt or a nice flaky salt like Maldon Sea Salt.

That’s it.
Simple. Perfect.
I could honestly eat three slices for lunch. 🤪

Keep scrolling for more tomato goodness.

✍️What's your favorite way to celebrate the tomato?
