EFSN Community Update: Week of July 25 |
|
Hey everyone, Our EFSN community has grown to more than 6,500 strong across Discord, email, and Instagram, making us one of the nation’s largest survivor-led recovery networks. Whether you prefer Discord, email, or Instagram, you’re already part of something powerful. But if you’re like me, you might be craving more in-person connection. Here’s what’s coming up. 💖 First Fridays are here! Starting this August, we’ll gather on the first Friday of each month for a casual dinner—no agenda, no speakers. Just time to exhale, reconnect with old friends, and meet new ones who truly get it. Friday, August 1 5:30–8:30 PM The Good Neighbor Bar 🙋♀️ Volunteer with me at the Altadena Rebuild Tradeshow! Next Sunday, August 3, meet 20+ vendors offering design, construction, and financing support for your rebuild. No RSVP needed. While you're there, come say hi and volunteer with me for an hour to help welcome new survivors to EFSN. Sunday, August 3 12:00–4:00 PM Loma Alta Park 💬 The EFSN Mod Squad is forming! We’re building a leadership team right here on Discord: 2–3 moderators per channel to answer questions, spark conversations, and help everyone feel at home.

Every week, EFSN surfaces urgent concerns and community wins from our Discord, so we can work with our community to drive action. Together, we’ve turned questions into campaigns, and posts into policy wins. Here are a few efforts we’ve been organizing, supporting, or celebrating lately. This week in the Mercury channel, survivors turned a tough conversation into clear, actionable strategies for dealing with adjusters. EFSN survivor Felix offered grounded, practical advice: “Hang in there 🙂 ... if you feel pressured by your adjuster, remember a basic legal tenet: everything you say/state can be used against you, but nothing you say needs to be used in your favor…. If they demand something, request (in writing!) where in your insurance it spells out the specific request. All this can be done politely, but firmly.” — Post by Felix He pointed others toward free resources and emphasized that policyholders should never feel pressured to accept insurer framing. The response was immediate. “Sound advice, Felix... the request for written timelines from Mercury is one thing I haven’t heard, which is great advice.” — Post by ChelseaH Exchanges like this are the heart of EFSN: survivors sharing hard‑won wisdom, building confidence, and helping each other take the next step forward. |
