WEEK 3 | CELEBRATE OUR SENSES | DAY 15

For our final week, our theme is celebrating our senses! While we do use some of them when it comes to our digital lives, the overload of information / visuals / music / screen time can feel too much and to me, dull them. Let's spend some time focusing on and appreciating our different senses.

Listen to the Musn'ts
By Shel Silverstein

Listen to the mustn'ts, child.
Listen to the don'ts.
Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts.
Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me...
Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.

Our sense for today is hearing--through our ears and through our hearts. Spend time listening to music, to a story, or podcast, to good advice you've been given, to birds chirping, the sound of waves crashing on the shore, to what calls your heart, to what your gut tells you. You can also spend time NOT listening to things that don't serve you (whether that's advice from others or your own self talk) or spend time in silence--sometimes this can allow us to hear our own voice louder and clearer.

Here's an exercise to try as a warm up or for your section: Have some art supplies handy. Listen to a favorite piece of music. Draw/paint/color what you hear. (You can listen to it one time and create as you hear things that interest you or create alongside the song until you run out of space. Or listen to it all the way through one time without creating then create on the second listen. If there's another way that works for you, feel free to try it!)

FROM OUR COMMUNITY
Yesterday's prompt was something that made you smile and I asked you to please show me one section from your project that has made you smile. Here's what you shared--I hope reading these bring you as much joy as it did for me!

“This one made me think! I used colored pencils, which I didn't love but, new to me. I love reading. It's my comfort. So I made a book. But lots of other things spark joy in my life, so I filled the book with words reflecting what's in my heart.” - Christina

"The "lunch" with cherries section makes me smile, as I had lunch with some new friends and we had a great time together." - Kate

“The teeny, tiny birds nest was from the day to notice nature. The lawn guys trimmed the bush and exposed a small nest. It looks so fragile not being hidden in the bush. I loved slithering lots of little pieces of paper and finding the perfect blue for the eggs. It was a robin’s nest.” - Cheryl

“The mundane prompt made me smile. I saw a bread bag tag on my microwave and decided to use it to make a pattern with paint. I love how it came out!” - Jessie (Bottom Left)

“Day 9 - Down: This one is probably my favorite! On this day, my sister and nephew came to visit. My nephew is just starting to figure out how crawling works, so naturally everyone was looking down at him encouraging him on. It’s so amazing watching him learn these new things. We had put him on this blanket that my great grandma had originally made for my family back when I was going to be born. So I decided to make an embroidery pattern inspired by this blanket! I have pretty minimal experience with embroidery so it took much longer than I thought but I’m happy with how it turned out! - Aubrey (Top Right)

Thank you again to everyone who shared! Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
