Well, the last Roy Boy has officially flown the nest, and I have to admit—this one hit me a little harder than I expected. I didn’t cry at any of the college drop-offs over the years, but leaving him at the airport on Friday (with all his earthly belongings in tow) definitely brought on the waterworks. Briefly, at least.
I’ve since come to grips with it. He’s happy, he’s with his brothers and friends, and he’s ready to kick off this next chapter—starting work (very!) early tomorrow morning.
Bill and I made a point to fill the weekend with some fun and games to ease our own transition, and now that we’ve cleared out the last of the debris from his extended summer stay, we’re back to enjoying the peace and rhythm of our empty nest…
…at least until Thursday, when our oldest returns for 10 days—with a crew of Chicago and high school friends in tow for a long weekend visit. 😅
Fun times that I cherish….despite the chaos, food bill, laundry and sand. I know I'll miss it come September…Maybe???
Here's the oldest showing the youngest his new office in the Loop:
