Welcome back to Beyond the Tour where twice a month you'll receive practical tips and resources to help you get better at what you do.

Let's get started.

If You Do One Thing This Week:
1. 🔎 Never be out of date. Use QR codes.
Instead of listing upcoming events on a flyer or signage, use QR codes to guide families to your website.

Here's why this is a good idea:
  • Stay polished. Stay economical. If your event dates change, you don't have to worry about the wrong date hanging out on an out-of-date postcard. You'll never have to reprint again.
  • Be dynamic and proactive (without lifting a finger). Getting families on your website gives you the chance to market to them with testimnonials and links to other pages of interest. Before you know it, they'll be on a virtual tour.
  • Help them help themselves. Directly integrate your event into family calendars. No flyer or magnet can do that.
  • Use data to help you. You can track engagement and know which QR codes get traction and which don't, what times of day people are scanning, and more.
Bonus points: Use the QR code to guide families to your application, or any other site you want them to visit. Make. It. Easy.

You can thank me later.

2 Tips to DO MORE:

2. 📱 Take a look at your Admission page.
Before the admission season train leaves the station, be sure your Admission landing page is in tip top shape.

Your Admission page is a customer service expereince. Treat it like a family's first visit to your home.
  • Do you have a photo of your team?
  • Is it easy to find contact information?
  • Are event dates and application due dates updated?
  • Is the information that people are looking for easy to find?
Take 10 minutes and look at other school's admission pages. If you have a team, assign each person 3 pages to research and report back to the team. Notice what they do well, and replicate it to make it yours. Let's polish the gem.

3. 🗣️ Share on a need to know basis.
It's a tricky balance to hold information about incoming students. We are trusted confidantes, and we also need to share some - and not all - information with our colleagues.

Here's a fix:
Create a document or spreadsheet with only the necessary details and share it with those who need access.  I like a Google sheet so it's up to date at all times.

Creating this pared down document will help your colleagues support your new students. Be in touch with me for what a student transition plan looks like.
