Research shows that it takes users a mere 50 milliseconds to form an opinion about the visual appeal of a website.

50 milliseconds!

That’s clearly not enough time to pull together a reasonable assessment of someone’s experience or capacity to help further their business.

That’s only enough time for the subconscious to react.

That’s why thoughtful visual branding matters!

Then, let’s say their subconscious is cool with the first 50 milliseconds…the average human attention span is just about 8 seconds.

8 seconds!

That’s all you’ve got to pique someone’s interest, answers someone’s question, or allay their fears. If you haven’t done it by then, they bounce. (That’s the legit term for it, too, by the way. They bounce.)

So if you already have your website up, my question to you is Are you sure what you are conveying is what you mean to say?

For example, there aren’t right or wrong colors in the world, but are you using colors that vibe together? Or do you have a plain white site that conveys nothing? Or are the colors you are using on the frequency of your potential clients? How do you want them to feel when they come to your site? What colors vibe with you?

These details seem absurd at first, I know, but addressing the subconscious part of appeal can mean the difference in making the connection with them or not.

If you already have a site up, I encourage you to book a consultation with me by clicking the link below so we can have a look at it together and I can tell you what I see at a granular level.

If it’s not what you mean to say, then we can make adjustments on the fly.

First Impressions and Subconscious Decisions

If your website is up but you aren't seeing the results you would expect, there are a hundred things to consider as to why; not the least of which are these fundamental design elements.

To create a website that captivates visitors and drives conversions, consider these crucial design aspects::

1. Visual Appeal: A study by Adobe revealed that 38% of users will stop engaging with a website if they find the layout unattractive. Invest in professional, visually pleasing design elements that resonate with your target audience. Example: A high-end business coach's website with casual, low-res photos and blocky text will lead potential customers to doubt the quality of their services.

2. Content and Layout: A clear, concise, and well-organized layout makes it easy for visitors to find the information they need, while persuasive copy communicates your value proposition. A Microsoft study found that the average human attention span is a mere 8 seconds, emphasizing the importance of a straightforward user experience. Example: A software development company's website content is filled with technical jargon, making it challenging for non-technical users to understand the value the company provides. As a result, potential clients may become frustrated and leave the website without taking any further action.

3. Color Psychology: Color choice can impact how visitors perceive your brand. According to a study by the University of Winnipeg, people 62-90% of user's initial assessment is based on color alone. Example: A financial advisor's website with an overly vibrant and bold color scheme may give off a playful, high-risk vibe, potentially deterring clients who seek a more conservative, trustworthy financial partner.
