A huge thank you to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and partners for helping to make Britepaths' first-ever Back To School Fair a success! Client families received new school supplies, free books, and other resources and services to help their children start the school year strong. This event brought together community members and organizations working toward the shared goal of ensuring that every student has what they need to thrive and build the academic foundation they deserve.
She shared that it would support not only her child's early learning, but also her own English language development. Instances like this demonstrate the power of having access to literacy resources and how a book can serve as a bridge between parents and children, as well as between language and opportunity. The Secret Garden at Britepaths is open to all members of our community during office hours. We invite you to help us keep this resource impactful by donating new or like-new bilingual books and titles written in Spanish, Amharic, Dari, and Pashto, so our shelves reflect the diversity of families in our community.
empowering the next generation through financial literacy
Additionally, the Financial Empowerment Center at South County recently wrapped up another series of workshops for students in Alexandria’s Educating Youth through Employment (EYE) and SYEP. These sessions were made possible through the dedication of volunteers and partners who led interactive lessons on:
Safe Mobile Banking & Payment Apps with Doug Sharpe and Josh Mergler of M&T Bank
Budgeting Basics with Gabe Derosier (Britepaths Board Member) and Audrey June of MainStreet Bank
The FAB Life Game, an interactive simulation of real-world financial choices, with volunteers from ReFrame Wealth (pictured above)
By introducing financial education early, Britepaths is helping youth across Northern Virginia make confident, informed decisions that will shape their futures. We're grateful to our volunteers and partners for investing in this important work.
Britepaths is grateful to our partners at HomeAid National Capital Region, who delivered more than 450 pounds of diapers and wipes through their annual diaper drive
These essential supplies are now stocked in our SNAP Gap Pantry, where they will directly benefit families in our community who are working toward stability while facing the rising costs of basic care. For many parents, access to infant care items can be a significant barrier, especially when resources are stretched thin. This donation helps relieve that burden, allowing families to focus on long-term goals like employment and education without having to sacrifice daily necessities. These supplies are available by self-referral to anyone in our community in need.Thank you, HomeAid NCR, for helping us meet families where they are and support them with compassion, dignity, and practical care. Partnerships like this strengthen our collective ability to respond to immediate needs while building pathways to lasting stability.
