This past week we closed a chapter at Kristin Mullen Designs and opened a new one and we could not be more excited! As our retail side of the business has grown, we’ve outgrown our darling studio in the Design District. We’ve found a gorgeous, light-filled warehouse that we’ve filled to the brim with antiques and treasures, leaving space for a series of “rooms” where we’ll be photographing our finds. It’s going to be so good.

But that’s just the half of it - literally! We’re going to be splitting our time between the warehouse and another location full of natural light and beauty, warmth and charm, and two enormous balls of blonde fluff called Raider and Shiner. That’s right - our team will be working on all things design here at the Curated Cottage study. And we are thrilled. Already we’re finding it to be soothing and creative - we’re not sure if it’s the gorgeous and enormous antique desk we all share, or the sounds of the birds outside or the sight of random bits of dog hair floating about and glinting in the light! And if you’d like to get up to speed on all the Curated Cottage happenings so far, check it out here and here

When I first learned that we were going to lose our spot, I was in Europe on my April shopping trip. And in all honesty, I opened that email, read it, felt sick, closed it and told myself a la’ Scarlett O’Hara that I would think about it tomorrow. And events that week really lead me to the solution I’ve found. My daughter had a health scare - she’s fine now - that really led me back to my long-time desire to do my design work from home where I can have more work/life balance and cut out the interminable time that I spend weekly in traffic. And just like that, I knew that our team needed to work on design together here in my home.

I’m at peace being closer to my family and available at a moment’s notice if I’m needed. Even if it’s just for a quick scratch behind the ears - and no, I’m not talking about my husband John!

I can’t wait to see how our team flourishes with this latest development. But I have a sneaking suspicion that you’ll get to share more inspiration as well as the beauty that we’re finding in the every day here at the Cottage. Stay tuned!

PS Love the pattern on the title border as much as I do? It’s the drapery fabric in our new KMD digs! Have a look here
