A note from Mr. Finkbine
—
Hi CYC Community!
I’m Sterling Finkbine, and I’m so excited to be stepping in as the new Principal Director of the Cincinnati Youth Choir and Conductor of Bel Canto! From everything I’ve seen and heard so far, CYC is a place where something truly special happens, and I can’t wait to dive in, make music with you, grow together, and create some uplifting performances this season. Thank you to Robyn, Heather, Caitlyn, and the rest of the CYC Team for being so welcoming!
A little about me: I’m a proud Cincinnati native with strong opinions about Skyline (spoiler: I love it), a seemingly endless supply of energy, and absolutely no shame about my love for reality TV, especially anything on Bravo. My partner and I also love to travel. Some of our favorite spots so far include Santorini, Paris, and Lake Como… but I’m always open to new recommendations!
Professionally, I teach at the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), where I work every day with incredible young artists like all of you. I care deeply about creating a rehearsal space where people feel seen, supported, and challenged, and where the music we make together truly means something.
This season, you can expect a blend of great repertoire, meaningful music literacy work, and lots of moments that will make you proud to be part of this community.
To our singers: I hope rehearsals become a place you look forward to, where you feel encouraged, inspired, and ready to grow. Being in the CYC community is something special!
To our families: Thank you for trusting us with your young artists. It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly, and we're honored to help create a welcoming, meaningful, and musical experience for them.
I’m so looking forward to meeting you all. See you soon!
