So begins Dodie's Smith's beloved coming-of-age novel,  I Capture the Castle.
 
Your prompt is to imagine two more sentences. 
 
First, what sentence would you write next? How would you lead us further into your version of the story?
 
Second, what sentence might come before this opening line? 
 
The goal isn't to guess what Smith wrote, but for you to imagine the start of a different story.

improvise effectively and to create strategy.

Last month's prompt was the first line from E.B. White's Charlotte's Web.
 
Charlotte's Web has one of my favorite beginnings and favorite sob-inducing endings — "It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both."— and so I was particularly eager to read your responses.
