Real (approachable) Style Advice for Real (grown-up) Women with
Real (smart) Budgets

August 17, 2025
Dear First name / friend,

Another 10/10 weather week here in Newport and a weekend full of variety. On Saturday we visited The Elms to see the horse-drawn carriages for Newport Coaching Weekend—a tradition where restored 19th-century coaches and teams roll through town in period finery. So unique and beautiful and a throwback in time. (Fans of HBO’s The Gilded Age will recognize The Elms as Bertha Russell’s “summer house.”)

Then we had an impromtu invite on a friend’s boat and sailed around the harbor (gotta love FOB's ⚓️).  We ended  the day at the Greek Festival on Thames Street with gyros, spanakopita, and baklava. Talk about an eclectic summer day!

Bill’s off this week, so we’ll be staycationing here at home—fingers crossed the great weather holds.

Hope this finds you well, and now here’s what went on at B.Styled this week…
Cheers!

Stop letting perfectionism keep you from GETTING. IT. DONE.

Pick one drawer—the one you open first every morning—and give it just 15 minutes.
Tomorrow, you’ll start your day with a clear, calm start instead of a jumbled mess.

Remember, your day and your outfit start here…You owe it to yourself to open an organized (not pinterest-worthy perfect) drawer, and #justgetdressed.

Scroll to the bottom for my Instagram post about this, and make sure you're following me there….It's so hard to create content over there, and I so appreciate your support!

3. A Color Combo to Try this Week:

You've probably already seen it out there, and it seems brown just might be the new black—and pairing it with white is one of the freshest, most modern ways to wear this chic, classic-yet-trending neutral.

This week, I pulled together a simple outfit using this combo:
➡️ A chocolate brown boatneck tank
➡️ A white cotton maxi skirt
➡️ And 2 shoe options: a pair of Mary Janes in a coordinating—not perfectly matching—shade of brown, and a pair of slides with tortoise.

Try not to get too hung up on finding perfectly matching shades. If your colors blend and feel intentional, they work.
Better yet? If you feel good in it—that’s the win. 👏🏼

Brown, like black or navy, is incredibly versatile—but often underused. And when you pair it with white, the whole look feels lighter, brighter, and perfect for this time of year.

So go shop your closet, mix tones, and play with combinations you haven’t tried before. You might already have everything you need to recreate this.
