Last month Cairns saw an unprecedented surge of police being deployed into our region to help the youth crime crisis plaguing North and Far North Queensland.
This dedicated crime offensive harness the capabilities of the
State Flying Squad, Traffic Taskforce, the Public Safety Response Team and local police to target serious repeat offenders.
New data is showing statewide that crime is down 1.6%, victim numbers are down 5.7% and serious repeat offenders are down 17.5%. However, crime is not reducing enough in North and Far Norh Queensland, so our government are taking action.
Led by local police, this strategic surge-capacity deployments will deliver more boots on the ground than ever before into the Far North and North Queensland communities, flooding the state’s crime hotspots with specialist police to help restore community safety.
Early intervention and more programs for when they leave detention are also a huge focus. We have a long way to go, but this is another step in the right direction.
