First name / Friend,

Today marks one year of me becoming a mom.

I was thinking about sending my coaching clients some cliché birthday post with a cute photo of my son, but decided that showing up authentically is more important to me…

This morning, I went on a "I did it" walk. I thought about everything I did to arrive at this point.

I thought about how grateful I am for my husband, my son, and the people who have supported me along the way.

I also thought about being a mom + entrepreneur, and the surprises I've had since returning to work.

My first surprise was that I've managed things better than I thought I would. I've developed decent routines and navigated the tough days with resilience, heart, and humor.

The second is that I'm disappointed how the world treats working moms. The truth is, moms are treated differently when they return to work.

This shows up in various ways – whether it's unconscious bias, less referrals, or social media algorithms that quiet female voices (thanks a lot, LinkedIn).

It's a lot to process. And to be honest, it makes me sad and angry at times.

But what I also know is true is this:

✅ There is no one better positioned to follow through, practice empathy, and kick a** at work than a mom.

✅ The best organizations love hiring and elevating moms. They know it's as a value add to their culture, leadership, and bottom line.

And so moving forward, I can't wait to work with more businesses that say: "duh, we want to work with you." And if you work for one of those awesome teams, I am grateful for you.

.     .     .

So on Sam's first birthday – and my mom-anniversary – I'm offering you two challenges for this week:

1 - Go for a “I did it!” walk to celebrate any milestone or courageous step in your life. During your walk, name anything you feel proud of, large or small.

2 - Forward this email to a mom in your circle who you appreciate. Include a little note at the top to remind them how awesome they are.

with gratitude,
